I have sure never once regretting buying the book..it is so wonderful..I find myself going to it to look up something or read something over again nearly every single day! I PLAN to get to MJ's farm next year for farm fair..by hook or by crook. (whatever that means!) I can hardly wait!

Hey, Aunt Jenny! Hope you and the gals enjoy this little lesson in the curious sayings we humans have come up with. I got this from a website called "The Word Detective". Enjoy!!!

"by hook or by crook" first occurs in print way back in 1380 and is still common today, no one knows exactly where it came from, or what the "hook" and "crook" in question were. One theory, perhaps the most plausible, is that while tenants on English manors were not allowed to cut trees for firewood, the lord of the manor permitted them to have all the branches they could pull down with a shepherd's crook or a curved knife on a pole called a "hook." Since firewood was a basic necessity, "by hook or by crook" in this case would have fit the bill of meaning "by any means necessary, even if awkward or difficult."

I love that!! I wondered if the crook was a shepherd's crook in the meaning! I LOVE my shepherd's crook...don't use it much but it is pretty as well as useful.
Thanks Nancy!!

I got my book last spring. It is wonderful! I have read it cover to cover several times, and refer back to it often.

I still have yet to order the book or even see it. It is on my list of things to get though and soon as possible. But as soon as possible probably means the end of September. Oh well I will just enjoy looking at the magazines till then.

hope it comes today it is so much fun tradeing with farm girls. I can't wait to see all those things that the farm girls have been talking about especially the apron. I hope the pictures are like the ones in the magazines. If they are it will be one beautiful book to read and look at.

It is a lovely book I haven't really had a chance to read it yet just glance at it. Funny I discovered that my husband looked at more than me last night. I thought that was quite humorus.

I have her book and magazines. Each one is a work of art and I tresure them. I also re-read her book and enjoy it more each time.

Last year I added visiting Mary Jane's farm to my list of things to do before I die. Ironically today as I was reading one of her magazines, I was wishing I worked with all of them on the farm....
