Just a suggestion -- you might want to consider having a section on animal husbandry (including natural health for animals, which stems directly from living organically) as well as a section on home-based businesses where people can share their ideas for ways to make money on the homestead....which seems to be the major thing holding most people back from making the leap -- "The Livlihood Question"

Great suggestions, Moon. I would be very interested in both of those topics.

Agree a section for animals would be a good idea. A section for earning a living after making the leap to country life would probably be helpful for many of the members. Excellent ideas, can one of the MJF gals help to get these suggestions implemented?

To take this even further, what about a "how to" not only on earning a living, but just "making the leap." What are the things a person or family absolutely needs to know -- and where to go to find the knowledge. Okay, a checklist (I *adore* checklists!), in your first year you should strive to do A,B,C. In year two, add these steps. Etc.

Hi Paula: On the subject of "making the leap" if I had only one book to rely upon it would have to be Carla Emery's "Old Fashioned Recipe Book" an Encyclopedia of Country Living. Are you familiar with it? It's still available on her website. Carla can take the credit for most of my enthusiasm for country life and I've spent many hours enjoying this fabulous book. Anyone else a Carla fan?-Patzee

Patzee...I am also a big Carla fan. I actually got to host a get together last October in my home with her as the speaker. (small informal thing) and she spent the night here (her husband too) they were the nicest, most down to earth people ever. I don't think anyone could go wrong having her book.....even those far from being able to move to the country could get alot out of it.

I read the board quite a bit, and there have been references to healthy living and remedies for a few things, but not a designated section that deals primarily with health issues.

You should start one! It is a good idea, and I am sure all would be interested! I know I would.

How do you start a new section or is that something the moderator does?

That would be my job. Health Issues, eh? Do you have a snappy title in mind? Let's see who can come up with the best title/description

Here's another suggestion just to put two in the pot of choices. How about "Keeping Well"

We all liked "Here's to Your Health." Way to go!
I've created the new section. Still trying to figure out how to move posts from one section to the other. Should be a simple thing to do, but I'm not seeing the button for it. Hmmmm....

Sarah - not sure if you caught this in the conversations or not, but it's been suggested starting a category entitled Swap Shop, or some variation thereof, where people could list items that they have to offer, either to trade or sell or give away. Let us know if this is possible!

I suppose it is possible to do that here -- we actually have something like this for camping gear and backcountry items on our backcountry food website, but nobody has used it for a long time. If you have any backcountry related items, feel free to use backcountrybarter.com. But I'll create a swap shop here too. Have fun!

Sarah-- I'm never sure where to post weather related questions/ concerns. Just this past weekend Meadowlark (Jenny) had 4 tornadoes in Kansas and Colorado was buried by a late season snowstorm that took everyone by surprise. It might be nice to have a "Weather Report"
forum on all of this wild, wacky and wicked weather we have been dealing with. It's also a nice way for us to see how different and similar our daily experiences are across the country and beyond. What do you think?

Great idea Bramble...We all seem to be experiencing extreme weather. I could post some pics of twisters...glad I missed the 30" snow in Colorado but its snowing just west of me, yuk.

That's exactly why my husband left Colorado! He said that this is unusual for them to have this much , that fast at this time of the year but he is glad he's not there dealing with it anymore! I'm the winter lover in this family!
