I was reading a few newspaper articles this morning that were saying the organic market is growing and even other countries like India are having larger than ever consumer response to organic foods and products!

I am so happy that so many people are learning about and enjoying organic. If consumers support organic farming- hopefully more sustainable practices will become the norm.

I also read that because of the slash and burn practices that many nations have practiced to clear land for cacoa trees- the trees have not been the healthiest and over 70% of the world's cacoa trees are now threatened by a combination of a fungus and virus. Some of the largest chocolate consuming companies are working with some farmers to find green incentives for sustainable farming that would produce healthy cacoa trees that would be strong enough to resist the fungus and virus.

It's amazing that everything we have been saying for years is now finally filtering through to the mega corporation level! If sustainable growing and harvesting had been practiced all along- then the fungus would have only been taking out the weak trees just like it always has. Now most of the trees are relatively weak from being forced to grow in marginal regions in poor soil.

It's very encouraging news. A certain giant company is finding out their GMO corn is no longer withstanding bugs. I'm sure their answer will be to create a more toxic herbicide to spray on it. My answer is you can't mess with Mother Nature, she will always win.
