in our new place we have an enclosed breezeway between the living room and the garage.

there is no evidence of wet or mold but it stinks musty----

what can i do to rid it of that? this is more than just air it out or cover the smell......
thx

You can try a mixture of bleach and water (make sure you don't have any pets around) or you could try washing it down with a mixture of vinager and water. Assuming this has a concrete floor.

I agree with Anne Jeanette, vinegar and water is the best, if that doesn't work, go for the bleach and water!

I read somewhere that setting an open bag of charcoal briquets in a corner of a musty room would act as charcoal filter air freshener. Makes sense, they use charcoal in those filters. I am planning to try it in my basement stairway

the charcoal to use, it the same type you use in a filter in a fishtank, hang it in a nylon mesh bag, at a couple of differant levels the lenght of the breezeway...

1/2 cup bleach to a gallon of water and then slowly stir in 1/2 cup white vinegar. I would put it in a pump type sprayer with a wand like you would do bug spray in. That way you can get to the ceilings and all around the floors as well. Don't rinse, let it air dry.

I have gone to the dent canned store and bought dented coffee and scattered it around and leave for a few days. It takes the musty smell away.

Honest? Wow, pretty cool. Ii remember a loooong time ago, some older folks I knew who once ran a diner told me that used coffee grounds were good for cleaning the floor. I guess it was abrasive without scratching deeply into the linoleum. I asked if that wouldn't draw bugs and they said no. (Very clean people, too!) Hmmm....

Fresh...Although the used works pretty well too if you lay it out to dry first. I have oven dried the bags of grounds from starbucks and then put little cottage cheese containers of it, with holes in the lids of course, around the house, under furniture and such, before. It will also get rid of fleas and wood roaches for some unknown reason. I just consider that a huge bonus!!!
