Has anyone taken a class with the Center for Essential Education's
School of Homesteading (at Heritage Farm)in Elm Mott, Texas?

I had a friend who took their bread baking class and she loved it.
I'm thinking about taking a few of their classes as they are right down the road from our new land... maybe the farm carpentry class and one on beekeeping, and of course the cheese making one...
Here's their description...
"Heritage Farm and the School of Homesteading are located within the Homestead Heritage community at Brazos de Dios. We have 510 acres of mixed woodland and arable farmland cultivated by traditional sustainable farming and gardening methods. Four of those acres are designated as Heritage Farm—A Working Homestead. This model homestead is a teaching and research facility where we offer workshops and seminars to those wanting to learn homesteading skills. The homestead contains a log cabin, a barn, a greenhouse, a family vegetable and herb garden, an orchard, a vineyard and berry patch, animal pens and corrals, pastures and a larger field that we farm with draft animals. Heritage Farm provides a context for hands-on, interactive learning on a working farm. Adjacent to Heritage Farm is the Homestead Heritage Traditional Crafts Village. This includes a blacksmith shop, pottery shop, woodworking shop, retail gift and craft store, deli, bakery and gristmill. Here our craftsmen and apprentices work daily in the traditional crafts that support our agrarian lifestyle. These craftsmen serve as the instructors and the shops as the classrooms for teaching the crafts and skills offered through the School of Homesteading."
Is sounds like it could be fun... Has anyone visited there? Or are there others that you'd recommend?

sounds wonderfully fun .. i haven't been there .. but have taken classes at heritage week events in pennsylvania. there are a couple similar schools down south here that i also have on my list of things to do in this lifetime. if you go .. do tell us all about it! xo

Erin,
Oh, you've got me so excited. Around the corner, about 40 miles from our ranch. You would love the bread baking class, anyone would.
Here's the list for me!
Practical Flower Garden to learn annuals and perennials for the area.
Weaving on a Treadle Loom - always wanted to learn
Baking Bread - already know how, but want to learn how to grind my own flour
Cheese Courses - this would be sooo much fun as I love cheese!
