My heirloom green bean plants were chewed down to the 1 inch of remaining stem. What animal would do this? Deer? Chickens wouldn't eat the entire plant would they? 2 broccoli plants are ruined too, and not in a row. The sweet corn is next to them and nothing is damaged, and tomatoes in another direction. Any ideas? It's only those bean plants. Good thing I already collected seeds for next year. Would a mole do this?

All of the above! They may come back for the other plants since they finished off their favorite the first strike. Sorry this happened. Raccoons got all our little patch of corn a few years ago. Real bummer. Connie

We had a rockchuck visiting our garden at night. Gone now thanks to my 19 year old nephew. Deer will do it too. I think just about any poultry would do a number on young plants. Darn. I hate when that happens!

I agree, all of the above. It's been a rough year, I think all of the critters are coming around for the slim pickins in my garden! The ants have eaten things I never thought they would, and then the furry pesks - big and small! - seem to take the rest! The deer seem to especially like my hot peppers, so don't listen to that old wives tale about scaring critters away with hot peppers! Definitely a rough year for humans! |

I found caterpillars on my beans-the likes of which I've never seen before. Could it be a pest like that?
