We're having a huge fruit fly problem this summer. I don't know how it started, but for at least the last week I've been super scrupulous about keeping all fruit in the fridge (I used to let it ripen in a hanging basket), keeping the dishes clean, etc., and they won't go away! Every time I think we've got them licked, and there's nothing possible that they could find in our kitchen to eat, they find a dirty dish or a fruit rind in the trash and multiply again.
Last night, we sprayed insecticide in the kitchen (we put away all the dishes, first), which I viewed as a last resort, and this morning, they're all over the place again.
Can someone help me? What's the best way to get rid of fruit flies? |

Yep...tis fruit fly season alright! Take a small jar and put some apple juice or a piece of fruit in it. Cover the top tightly with plastic wrap and secure with an elastic band. Then take a needle and make holes in the wrap, just large enough for the fruit flies to climb into, but not big enough they can get back out. This works unbelievably well.

Keep a tea towel or something handy to throw over it when company shows up at your door though. Doesn't make the best of conversation pieces sitting in your kitchen...lol.

I saw something yesterday on TV on this. It suggested you put water and Apple cider vinegar in a bowl and set it out. The flies are attracted but die in the mixture. I'm going to try it in my office at work because I have gnats from my plants and it was recommended for that also.
