Who likes fried bologna sandwiches? I have one every once in a while for lunch. My SIL thinks it is gross. And saids it is un healthy. I am 50 years old and have been eating them all my life. I only have one or two a month. I get to craving them once in a while if I have not eaten one lately. Matter of fact I think I will make me one right now for lunch!!!

I haven't had one in years, but I took one EVERY SINGLE DAY from first grade through 3rd. I have to have it burnt around the edges, and with yellow mustard on white bread, please :)
**Correction** I had one at the last Burlington Antiques Show a month or so back. It was WAY too thick, though--momma always made it just right. That's also why I don't get sunny side up eggs out any place :)

That is too funny you mention them: I was just gone for a week and that is the only thing my husband eats when I am gone, chiefly because it is the only thing he knows how to cook!

Oh, I just love fried bologna sandwiches with mayo, it does not have MSG so I can eat what I want of it. I like it fried with little burnt crispies around the edges too. My sister too gives me a hard time about bologna and hot dogs, I have to watch though and make sure I get a good beef or kosher hot dog that does not have MSG. My sister just thinks it is absolutely terrible that I eat both, oh she does not eat fast food either, hard to believe we are sisters sometimes we are soooooooooooo different. Oh well, thats life. Now, I have a taste for bologna guess I will pick up some at the grocery store tomorrow, yum, yum.

Yep. Burnt edges, mustard but we liked to add cheese and toast the bread. There's nothing like a childhood favorite!

When I married my husband he wanted me to make fried balogna sandwiches. I had never heard of it. And he liked it burnt. In fact, he liked just about everything burnt. Especialy his toast. But not eggs. Had to be over easy and runny. But yeah, he loves them still. I have not bought balonga in years but when he was on vacation this last time, I had to get some for him. Ugh!

My nine year daughter made herself one tonight for dinner. She loves them.

I used to eat them when I was a child. We called them "Fried Hats". It was a great quick meal. My parents refused!! to eat at fast food burger joints (that was what they called them). I've been thinking I need to try them again for my boys!

Has your SIL ever had a hotdog? I think if you get the right bologna it tastes like a good hotdog. Moderation is key-it's unhealthy to supress or limit yourself. Before you know it your eating a whole chocolate cake in one sitting. There's a great diner around us and their bologna sandwiches are awsome. It's cut a bit thicker and on a roll. Add some onions and a good mustard. And pair it with one of their homemade soups. I think I could eat them once a week.

I love fried bologna sandwiches...I like mine almost black on both side, in other words really well done!! Two pieces like that, a piece of cheese, with mustard....oh, it's so good!!! Smiles, Beth A night, sometimes, I'll tell my husband we are having a gourmet meal. He'll ask what? I will say "Bo-Log-Na on wheat bread"

Did anyone's parents call blolgna "dog"? My Daddy did. We didn't have it fried as much as we had "ground up dog". We grind it with meat grinder or food processor, add boiled eggs, sweet relish and Miracle Whip. Our favorite!! Just had some last week. UMM Umm good ole Ground up Dog!!
My nephew has a food wagon that he takes to fairs, festivals and such. His specialty is smoked/barbeque meat. Smoled/barbeque bologna is one of his best sellers. He buys the meat in a big long tube. It comes out black around the edge. You girls would love it.

Fried bologna sandwiches are the best! Grandma always had them ready for lunch when we would walk on down to her house growing up, some of my best memories. This post made my whole day Dorinda! Now I am looking forward to lunch.

I too had fried bologna sandwiches at grandmas growing up. My little sister and I eat them all the time. My DH and all 5 kids refuse to try them. I love it burnt around the edges, on toasted homemade bread with mayo and mustard. I slice garden tomatoes and salt them, and alternate between eating them on the side, or putting them in the sandwich. I LOVE THEM!!!!
The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.
