My 2 year old is driving me crazy! She was showing signs of being ready to go the potty around her 2nd birthday a month ago. She was pulling off wet diapers. Then she started pulling off dry diapers to go on the floor! She oviously knows when she needs to go. I have her in training pants or (pullups). She sucessfully started going to the potty but only when i take her or reminded her. But she won't ask to go or go on her own. So she is still pulling off wet or messy pants or pulling them off then going somewhere besides the potty! Any suggestions tips??
My son now 4 was so Easy to train
Help I am tired of mopping floors and cleaning carpets!!!

She is probably a little too young to ask to go. You need to remind her and probably will for up to 6 months or so. I usually don't recommend Pull-Ups, I don't think they can feel the wet. But, it sounds like your little dolly knows what it feels like when she has to go. Put her on every 45 minutes or so...set the kitchen timer. Sit with a book for a little while and give her plenty of liquids so she's successful on the potty. Good luck. If it's not too hot out take her and the potty (and no pants) outdoors. It's a lot less messy!

oh, I hear your pain and frustration!! potty training is so hard. My son was very challenging and my daughter is too. Part of the problem is definitely me.. I am just not consistent enough.. I learned with my son that when I gave him opportunities, he was great..it took him a long time before it all clicked together. He's now 5 and no worries whatsoever..He had it pretty well figured out by 3 1/2.. My daughter, 2 1/2 is touch and go. She knows when she needs to go, has peed and pooped on the floor etc..In fact just last week she pooped on the rug and slipped in it..what a total mess! UGH!!! But we're working on it.. I know its hard but she will eventually get it..hang in there!!! I've found that making a big deal of peeing and pooping on the potty is a big time motivator too.. When my husband gets home from work I make a big production out of telling him when she successfully went on the potty..When she has an accident, we don't mention it in the same way..we take a more "that's what happens when we're learning," approach. I've tried the book idea while sitting on the potty..my kids LOVE to blow bubbles too....

My 2 year old, as soon as she had turned two, went for one whole month using the potty and we all thought that she was completely trained. She only had one pee diaper the whole time.
Then she regressed, for whatever reason.
Children do things and it's not an all or nothing kind of thing. Sometimes their little bodies and brains are in sync and sometimes not. A few months later our two year old did potty train and stayed that way, can't explain it.

Olga has been learning to use the potty for a couple months now. She's 2 1/2, but she still very rarely asks to go by herself. I just make sure to remind her often thruout the day, and she will go almost every time I take her to it. She still is in cloth diapers, though. We are taking it pretty slow. I always make sure she helps "clean up" afterwards, too, and she likes that.

Hmmm I remember those days...we tried stacks of picture books next to the potty, m&m candies, handed out by mom, one at a time...anything to get them to linger there longer. I had little boys, so we used to float a dime store plastic boat in the toilet bowl to "shoot" at. The boat stays put when you flush and gets thrown away when no longer needed. :) Cheerios work great at targets too-they float! Good luck Hun, and of course...this too shall pass! :)

I can tell you a wonderful magic trick that worked with flying colors in our house, I invented this when my 2 yr old was potty training.... I just made a chart, let her color it and decorate it, then I hung it up inside the medicine cabnet using tape then below it we put an envelope full of stickers inside, we called them POTTY POINTS! Everytime she went potty she would get points and then you choose a reward system that best works for you! she was in that bathroom all the time and the accidents stoped completely!! Kids are so different. My first son wasn't interested in pottying until 2.5 and then he had alot of accidents, but was done by about 3.
With my second son I used elimination communication (or infant potty training) starting at 8 months. He was fully day potty trained at 19 months old and hardly any accidents after.
My third kiddo will also be EC'ed starting next month. It requires alot of diaperless time, but in the end it's well worth it. (But very easy for me to say, as I have wood floors and no carpet!) |

I am so glad you posted this. My grandson is 2 1/2 and I bought him a potty chair (for his house) when he turned 2, he uses it occasionally. My daughter and her partner are working on training him, but he has lots of other things to do, and doesn't seem very interested. I was kind of worried that it is taking so long.. is 3 years about the norm now? My grandmother always said that we were trained at 12 months (maybe it's her memory) but when my girls were small the pediatricians all recommended start training at 24 months. I can't even remember the potty training, I think we had a potty chair for the girls, it must have gone pretty easily. I think I switched them to cloth panties and put plastic training pants on them and they didn't like the wetness.
I hear from my oldest daughter, his aunt, that my grandson was at my ex-husband's yesterday, swimming, and after he got out of the pool he had an accident. My ex proceeded to YELL at him (there is a reason he is an EX) this upset me but my husband tells me to "stay out of it" which is probably good advice. I hope my grandson is not scarred for life!
I think maybe I will need to get another potty chair for him to use here and invite them to come more often! I will watch this thread for more ideas.
