It has just hit me that August is around the corner and I am 33 weeks pregnant. So instead of worrying about possibly having a long labor, the pain, needles, and being in a hospital in general, I am having a breakdown that my house isn't clean enough! Especially since we'll be having family over to visit! So I'm trying to come up with a cleaning plan to keep everything squeaky clean. So far this is what I've been doing...

1.) Sweeping/vacuuming once a day. (We have mostly tiled floors, so I see can see dirt much easier!)
2.) Cleaning baseboards once a week.
3.) Dusting once a week.
4.) Doing dishes immediately.
5.) Not letting the laundry basket overflow.
6.) Cleaning bathrooms once a week.
7.) Mopping floors once a week.

The hubby is planning on moving the oven and fridge this weekend and cleaning behind it and he's also going to clean the inside of the oven. We've gone through closets and the rest of our "junk" and have de-cluttered the entire house.

Is there anything I've missed? Is there anything ya'll would suggest on sanitizing before the baby gets here? Apparently my nesting has finally set in. Big time!

Just follow your nesting instincts Micah. Your family isn't going to judge your house in your stage of pregnancy (and if they do... forget them!)It's more important for you to be as comfortable and well rested as possible.

Your goals are all reasonable, and dont worry about sanitizing so much, the baby isn't going to get around much at first so just pay close attention to dust, and only worry about sanitizing stuff going into his or her mouth. I don't actually believe in boiling and sanitizing everything when baby IS getting around because I feel a reasonable amount of non-sanitization helps promote an active immune system.

Oh Micah, I've already warned hubby that the stage you are in is coming. I'm 29 weeks so have a bit more time, but know it will come quickly. The baby's room is still a guest room with a queen sized bed in it. I think I'll hint to hubby and my darling brother that while us girls are at the baby shower it would be a good time to move some stuff. hehe. Just don't overdo it. I agree with jen that some germs are good for all of us, but the organizing and straightening are a big deal. Best of luck.

Thanks you guys! These hormones are making me crazy because I'm so germaphobic all of a sudden. I was always one of those kids who would go play in the dirt and never wash her hands before eating.

My aunt called the other day and asked what I was doing and I told her I was cleaning. Here was our conversation...

Her: So you're having a breakdown because Mam (her mother, my grandmother) is going to be over a lot in August?
Me: Yup
Her: Yeah, that's how I was when I was pregnant with all three of mine. When you start having serious contractions, give a set of your house keys and I'll finish anything that's been left.
Me: That's why you will always be my favorite aunt.

My grandmother is the nicest, most helpful person in the world and would never, ever say anything about a dirty house. But she is also the most cleanest person in the world. Both my aunt and I say there's no better motivation to get our houses clean as her coming to visit.

So now with my aunt's offer to help, I feel a bit better. And hubby has been way helpful with keeping on a schedule with me.

I'm so done with being pregnant. These hormones make me do weird things!

I remember going on a cleaning spree, but nothing too crazy. Our wee girl is 2 and half, now, but I think I clean far more now (and when she started crawling and walking) than I did when she was a tiny baby. For one, she wasn't on the floors or anywhere where that might get dirty.

I scrubbed kitchen cabinets, bathroom floors, and got her nursery together. If you think back to when you were small, and could actually remember, your house seemed quite large. And, so it is to little ones. Even a small room seems huge, so I often kept her safe and sound in one or two rooms that I knew were in tip top shape and there was nothing she could get into to hurt herself. Once she started really motoring around, I opened up the house and observed her, watching to see what she could reach, etc. Then made my amendments to the rooms. I think the most important thing to do, besides keeping things clean (and remember, not ALL germs and bacterias are BAD bacterias--we need to build up a resistance!), decluttering is key. Moving stacks of things, or baskets of stuff makes a huge difference in your rooms, and when mobile, they won't be in the way of little one's progress.

The first few months after she was born, I started back to work and it was a major adjustment. We made sure dishes were done, counters wiped and floors swept and bathrooms cleaned once a week. Makes a HUGE difference just doing those few things!

The deep cleaning behind the fridge etc is a good idea to get out of the way before baby arrives since you sure won't feel like doing it after the baby is here. I never have worried too much about the babies and dirt. I have to agree a certain amount of germs and the like help the immune system. Clean yes, sterile no. I remember needing to clean everything when I was pregnant with my boy. With my daughter I just couldn't get there. Probably because I couldn't keep up with my boy. Now with both I just try to stay caught up with the clutter from a 3 year old and a 6 month old. Luckily my husband does the brunt of it since I work full time and he doesn't right now. We try to hit the big stuff on a weekend about once a month.
