Our poor house has become overrun with spiders. Big ones, in fact!

I really don't want to spray chemicals because I have a toddler running around. Do you think dusting all the window frames and floor moldings with diatomaceous (did I spell that right?) earth help?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks ladies!

It does help. I use it.

You can also put mothballs in your crawl space or basement and attic. The only thing is the smell. I hate it, but it will drive off spiders, mice, fleas, and clothes moths.

Oh man. I've caught 3 HUGE WOLF SPIDERS in the house. The regular spiders I can deal with. But BIG ones? NO. Big, hairy, juicy ones? Not in the house. No way. I always throw a cup over them and wait for DH to get home to take care of them. i'm going to try osage oranges this year, to see if that works. We've got pets, so I'd rather not use the DE.

If you can find pure DE it is completely safe for humans and pets. My dad gets it and feeds it to his cats mixed into canned food. It gets rid of intestinal worms.

It is also the best flea powder you will ever find. He puts it in a duster sprayer and sprays the whole yard, cats, dog, and all the trees and plants. It dries the fleas and flea eggs out and kills them. It also is good for killin slugs and snails, which I use it for to protect my cabbages. Our garden is over run by them, but I'm beginnin to win that fight! Yea!

It makes a great 'mud mask' for oily skin, and can be added to homemade soap for grit as an exfoliant. There is even a recipe to use it for a colon cleansing regimine that is supposed to be really good.

This is just a few uses for it, there are whole books about all the things you can do with it.

I killed 3 of those big brown spiders yesterday in the bathroom. They tend to be in there more than anywhere else. But it's that time of year. I hate those things. And I have seen fleas too. SO I will dust with the DE and put some on the big ole lazy spoiled dog who does not like this heat and has to stay inside. He got shaved yesterday and now needs a bath.

After killing a new more monster sized spiders, I spent most of last night dusting the door frames and window sills. Hopefully this will cut down on them.

Blech!

I have used the osage balls with very good results, here we can buy them in the grocery store and they are called hedge fruits- big sign that states they are not to be eaten and only to be used as a spider repellant.

One and only huge perk of leaving the farm, the only spiders I've seen in a year in a half are daddy long legs!! Nothing else, at all!!!! I always used DE for bugs on the farm. My FIL bought tons, for his pool filter.

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

When we bought our little vintage trailer our neighbor brought over a bag of chestnuts. I wasn't sure why but he informed me that stuffing them in corners, cupboards, etc keep the spiders away. Up to that point i had found a spider each week, since using the chestnuts we have not had a single spider! So not sure if this is why but... not arguing with him, :)

I will try all of the above to try to get rid of the spiders. Last night, I put my dog out. When I opened the door to come in the house the spiders were racing me to get in. It must be the season for those things.

We are exploding with those black jumping spiders. We get a lot of wolf spiders and some that I can't recognize. However, I leave the webs alone outside the doorways - they catch the ants and other critters, helping cut down the bug population too.

I've heard that lavender EO will repel spiders. Put in a spray bottle of water and spray around windows/doors etc. I can't remember where I got the tip and I haven't tried it but you might google it to see if you can find some info....
