For $15 at an estate sale this morning- I found a reprint of the instruction manual on ebay for $9.99. Are there special mixes for these? I don't know a thing about bread makers. I did plug it in to make sure it worked. Excited!

I have used all kinds of recipes. You can probably find a owner's manual online for free, maybe from the manufacturer. I've done recipes from all kinds of bread books- always do the liquids first (in the bottom), then the dry, yeast on top. NEVER put the bread pan in a dishwasher. Let bread cool on rack, or may be soggy. Works great for pizza dought too, on the "dough" cycle! Have fun! I got mine at a yard sale too...

And I play with the recipes. We were doing a honey granola loaf for hubby and I dcided to give him something else, but the recipe called for sugar. Well, I left it out all together and the bread came out just fine. We have learned that for the bigger loafs, if you leave out 1/2 cup of flour the bread is much softer. This works well with wheat breads. So try a few by the recipe and then play.

There are mixes too. I found a bunch of gluten free mixes on sale and couldn't pass them up. That bread is crazy price!

good luck

you know,I looked for a free manual & found none online-already paid for a reprint. Don't have a dishwasher but that's good to know! So you can make your own dough-thought it had to be a pre made mix or something.

Ironically I found the same brand bread machine in a thrift store today, with an owner's manual, but didn't know what model your was! Could have bought it and sent it to you, lots of recipes in it!

Sherrie,

I make ALL KINDS of bread in my bread machine but I only use the dough cycle and then take it out and shape and do the final rise. As long as you follow the recommendations for the temperature of the liquid and what order to add things to the pan in your manual you can pretty much make anything, even pizza dough! :) Look at my blog if you get a chance, I have 100% Whole Wheat bread and Country Herb bread recipes posted there.

A friend of mine has a bread maker and she went to a Friends of the Library sale (when they get rid of books) and bought a box full of cookbooks specifically for bread machines. Evidently there are bread books out there with all kinds of recipes. Congrats on your cool find! :-)

It's a model 4300. My crafts club has a book of recipes but man they want the farm for it-I'll hunt on half.com & eBay. Can't do much till the manual gets here.

ooooo, I just saw two Breadmakers at the Thrift Store. So if I buy one I should look at the bread pan and make sure it isn't warped? Is that why they say don't put it in the dishwasher? Anything else I should look for? Plug it in of course.
