Remember the cool barn made of pallets a couple of issues back? Well, I made one! (with help from my handyman, Jack, as he has the construction know-how) I used a 10 x 10 Shelterlogic shed-in-a-box, plywood, trim boards, and reclaimed windows purchased at the area ReStore. It came out really cute, and I'm using it to house my rabbits in the backyard. On hot days, I hang a big box fan in the open half of the dutch door, so the rabbits get fresh air and stay cool & comfortable. They seem very happy in their new digs!.JPG) .JPG) .JPG)

Thanks girls! :-) So far it is working well. I wish I could have found a lighter colored shed kit (I think the gray makes it hotter, which on hot days isn't great with rabbits). But, a super-sized fan, frozen bottles, and wet towels seems to really help with heat issues. If anybody out there has raised rabbits through hot & muggy weather, any other low-tech cooling ideas I could try?

I really like it. You did good work. Very cute! TK
Happy it is, indeed, for me that my heart is capable of feeling the same simple and innocent pleasure as the peasant whose table is covered with food of his own rearing, and who not only enjoys his meal, but remembers with delight the happy days and sunny mornings when he planted it, the soft evenings when he watered it, and the pleasure he experienced in watching it’s daily growth.

Update on the pallet barn: It is doing great! We had a tremendous couple of storms roll through last week, high winds (no tornado here, but there were some in the system that came through), monsoon rains, general scariness. Through it all, the pallet barn stood strong. I found a misting system from Orbit and installed it, and it really does lower the temp inside the barn at least 20 degrees, which was super-helpful when we had a week straight of temps in the 100s! All in all, this is a fantastic project to put to use on your "homestead".
