I have a very "librarian" question (sorry, it's an occupational hazard!) Is MaryJanesFarm Magazine indexed in any commercial database? I know there's an online index (http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/magazine-index.pdf) but I haven't found the title indexed in any the commercial databases we use in the library---and that's a shame, given the wonderful information included in the magazine. I just wondered if I had missed something?

Thanks!

Deborah

That's a great question-I hope that someone there at the "henhouse" has the answer!

Hi Deborah.
We're not familiar with "commercial databases." Tell me more!

Carol---sorry it took me so long to get back! Libraries use commercial databases to provide indexing to journals and magazine articles, as well as to actually access the electronic content of some journals. Some journals provide both, some provide only indexing. Some journals/magazines sell exclusive rights to the full-text of the product to only one vendor, others negotiate to put the content across multiple vendors. There are several large vendors who produce several databases: Gale, Proquest, and Ebsco are problably the three largest that would have databases relevant to MJF. My library purchases a lot of Ebsco databases---so databases that might be a good fit would include MasterFile Premier (which is heavily marketed to public libraries) or specialized databases such as GreenFile (which focuses on environmental and sustainability issues) or Garden, Landsscape & Horticulture Index (which would focus more on the farming/gardening aspects.) Ebsco has a "for publishers" web page with more information: http://www.ebscohost.com/for-publishers/for-publishers (But in the interest of fair disclosure, I'm sure Gale and Proquest have similar sites.

Does that help?
