Our insurance is now requiring both my husband and myself to participate in an on-line health program. Good thing we are already on that path, but for others this is a shock.
If we don't participate, our insurance deductible will rise. We have to watch on-line Web seminars, log exercise, eating habits, weight, and participate in other ways. We earn points and if we don't earn, our cost will rise.
Is this a requirement for any of you? Just curious.

Maybe I should check; our insurance is out of sight. They do suggest health training, but I don't think it is required.

I typically go to the gym, outside of what exercise I get her on the farm. However, with my sore foot, I have to resort to riding a bike. I have one, but will need to go to the gym for rainy days. I have to chart my miles daily, exercise, and log in to read health related articles. Also, we have to watch Web-inars on-line. If we don't we don't earn points and we have a higher deductible and higher costs out of pocket. Oh, and also a higher co-pay. We get points by getting a physical, logging exercise, weight etc. We, both him and myself, have to earn a specific amount of points each. Last year it was just him. This year both of us, even though I don't work there, I have to participate.

The last insurance I had at a previous job had those same requirements. Also insurances are starting to not pay for certain services if you are considered "non-compliant" while on the one hand I can understand that, at the same time I know of some people with issues who are complaint and still can't get them under control. I think overall health insurance is a huge scam and I am seriously considering not bothering to get it with my current employer. I think that it is a bit ridiculous what insurance companies are requiring of people, what people pay for premiums and then insurance companies don't have to pay if they don't want to. Crazy!

My problem is that the gym we go to does not have a pool. I can only ride a bike or swim until my foot is healed. 
I really don't want to drive the distance I need to, to join an expensive gym to simply swim.
So...
I got my bike out and went for a 5 mile ride this morning. I will work it up to 10 miles each day. I gained 10 lbs from lack of walking on the treadmill like I used to.

Our health insurance through my DH's company requires all employees to attend an in-person seminar - nothing on the web, nothing that family members must participate in. If the employees don't participate, the rate goes up for all of us. It's ridiculous. How stupid do they think people are? It's a complete waste of time, to be quite honest. Many of the questions that arise are never clearly answered in these meetings - people are referred to a "dedicated counselor" and asked to call them for more information. What the heck? In fact, whenever there are claims issues that really do arise, their OWN people can't seem to cut through red tape and help, but I won't go there....
I worked as a 3rd party insurance administrator for a while. Part of my job was to create informative, entertaining pamphlets for the employees of one of our larger clients. They were fun - they would help people understand any changes to the policy in layman's terms without the technical insurance speak. Part of my job was to speak personally with employees over the phone and help them sort through any insurance issues they were having, as well as provide retirement benefit education. Because I had more knowledge and insight, it made the entire process a lot smoother and easier for the insureds. It was my JOB, and I gave it my all, as I well should have! Of course, our agent would also go in and provide education about the changes and speak with employees directly, but none of that was ever "required" of the employees - it was OUR responsibility!!! Sometimes this stuff is just sooo complicated - it's insane to think a little webinar is going to answer all the questions and take care of all the issues. Needless to say, I am very aggravated to hear about the online thing, too. I think taking out the human aspect of discussion is just plain wrong and irresponsible on the part of the health insurance companies, on many levels. And if the insurance companies would just do their JOBS, maybe they wouldn't feel the need to educate the people to do their jobs FOR them. In other words, you have to learn their job and do it for them, otherwise you're going to have to pay someone more money to do the job they were actually hired to do? Ludicrous. And we wonder why there are so many problems...
Okay, I'm off the high horse now... walking like a cowboy...
