I just got done making mint extract-I took about a pound or so of mint stems, stripped off the leaves, and added them to about a pint of grain vodka. I'll let it sit for a few more days, then strain it. You can do the same with orange and lime zest as well! (Also there is the very popular vanilla extract recipe with a few vanilla beans and vodka as well) I use tons of lemon and vanilla extract in my cooking, and I can't WAIT to try the mint!

I'm making the Vanilla extract this week but never thought about the mint. What a great idea for all the mint I have.

I never thought about making any kind of extract! I use tons of lemon and vanilla in my cooking. Making my own would save a lot of money...and obviously be better for me. Question from a non-drinker. What exactly is a grain vodka? Well, I know it's obviously made from grains vs. potatoes and other things, but does it say that on the bottle? Without promoting anyone special, is there a brand name you use or could suggest?
