Hi to everyone, I was wondering if anyone has lettuce growing in their kitchen so that they can use some when they need it. where I live we are 40 miles from a good store with a good produce section. and the one thing I miss is having more salads... especially now in the winter... does anyone grow it in the kitchen?? If you do How? give me some tips!!! thanks in advance

I have an indoor greenhouse in the living room. Lettuce grows great in there. We love havin lettuce, beet greens, chinese cabbage, and green onions on hand all year round. My greenhouse is homemade of 2x4s and visquene with a table for the trays to sit on. I have 6 inch pots in the trays, 6 will fit in each tray. You can add a heater if your room runs a little too cool, 65*-72* is stable weather for lettuces.

I've got a pack of "salad mix" lettuce growing in my kitchen in a rubbermaid "greenhouse" seems to be working pretty good so far!

Just a clear Rubbermaid container with a lid. I use those types of containers for traveling with my snakes and have a bunch of them with holes drilled around the top lip. I wanted to get my seeds started but didn't want to start them outside, so I thought that'd make a good green house. I cleaned it and put some soil in it, keep it humid and it is working exceptionally well. Now, I just need more room inside to get some more going! To put the holes in it, I used a wood burning tool with one of the tips that I rarely use and poked the holes in it.
