03/15/15: Can you believe it . . Gunsmoke has grown up and yesterday went to the butcher! How time flies!
If you scroll down you'll see his "baby" pictures from 4 years ago. Pics of some of our other calves, who are also growing up . . WOW
CJ

04/14/12: Posted some new pics at the bottom of this post, taken 04/13/12.
Thanks for letting me share!
CJ

04/01/12: meet "Peyrone", bull calf born yesterday (03/31/12) to "Patty" . . . "Gunsmoke" is the big brother in the pasture!
See pic of "Peyrone" at bottom of this post . . he's just about totally reddish brown.
Thanks for letting me share!
CJ

P.S. The name? My hubby named him! Beats me!

(this is the original post from March 2011)
Well, I'll have to get a picture posted but just thought I'd share with you that our Longhorn cow, "Peppermint Patty" had a bull calf yesterday. He is named "Gunsmoke"!!!
What fun!

It may be Weds. before I get over to the pasture to get his picture. I work 10 hr. shifts today and tomorrow. We'll see.
I'm sure he's a cutie!!! His daddy's name is "Nougat" (because of his Longhorn markings/coloration).
But I'll get a pic for sure soon.

CJ, I bet he is a cute little guy. So both parents are Longhorn? And I just got a plain ole black calf. Congrats on your little bull.

He IS cute!!! I saw him tonight but since I was on my long power walk I didn't want to carry a camera with me. He is mostly white with the typical red Longhorn markings, spots and freckles on his neck and head. Longhorn markings can be quite varied. His grandpapa was a purebred Longhorn but he was totally white!
Wednesday . . I promise!

Chicks, calves, lambs . . . it's Spring . . and they are all so fun!

Okay Farmgirls, here are the pictures. I actually was able to get pretty close to "Gunsmoke" . . .mama not too concerned.

Mother "Peppermint Patty" (Patty for short) and child

"Aunt Pumpkin" (because she was born in the fall)

"Aunt Snowflake" (because she was born on my birthday in December a few years ago and I got to name her)

Poppa "Nougat" and Cousin "Ebony" (she's part Angus)

and, to keep them all in line, our sweet Australian cattle dog "Bramble". She is my BEST pal and partner on my power walks.

Enjoy!!!
Thanks for letting me share!!

Thanks girls!!
Yes, you could smooch that nose . . but ya' gotta keep an eye on mama and her horns.
He does look snuggley . . . but I haven't tried that. I was able to pet his little head and scratch his ears.

I have to tell you that "Aunt Pumpkin" is funny in that she will just stand there and watch very intently at what I'm doing, as if to ask "whatcha doin'". My hubby says "well, her elevator doesn't go all the way to the top". My, my!!! What a thing to say! :)
Makes me laugh!

Very pretty cattle for sure. But those horns! Good grief! We have some out here and they are huge. There are also some of the Watusi cattle around here. Now those horns are impressive. And scary. But beautiful at the same time.

Yes, the horns . . . one must always watch them if you get very close. They can definitely be weapons!!! Their horns aren't always exactly the same configuration, either. One may have some that curve more up and out, more up or be straighter out. We had one heifer that had some that were straighter out and the span was so wide she had to turn her head to get into a livestock trailer!!

Bramble, the doggie, knows to be very cautious of the horns too!
