Ladies: I am overwhelmed with the beautiful and varied creations you show us as well as the things you tell us. I am just a wee one but it thrills my heart to see hand made artwork. Awesome! Hearts to God, Hands to work. |

welcome to the group Wood Bee Farmgirl
You are new here nice to meet you. You say you are a wee one how young are you. I am in my mid 30's not too old or too young. Not that either of those things really matters in the overall picture of things. I am glad you like what I and the other ladies make. Take care Sunshine

Rachel and Sunshine-- There are alot of people making temari balls, and have been for thousands of years. The history is pretty interesting and how they started out as Chinese but also became a Japanese art form. I know in Japan they are given as tokens of friendship and I have some given to me by an exchange students family. They are beautiful and very intricate. For anyone who doesn't know what they are just Google Craft Instruction for Temari balls. A lot of sites come up for you to see the variety of work and patterns. Enjoy, they are beautiful! Nice to know the tradition is alive and well here in the states too!

Oh I have seen lots on the interenet and I owen two from Japan. I do know the history like I said I use to teach it. It is just that most people haven't a clue what I am talking about even my brother in law who lived in Japan for two years. It is true it started out as chinesse but it is more prevalent in Japan now days and not to much there either.

thanks I had fun teaching it and frustrating at the same time. it wasn't exactly a quilt class it was a technique class. You came to the ones you wanted to and did how ever many blocks of each you wanted I usually had about 20 to pick from each class. if you wanted you could do all twenty each month. It was a lot of work. Here is the kicker if you can believe it I spent about 100 hours a month setting up for and I did it all for free for a woman's group at church. The woman in the class where not very nice to me I made lots of hand out 30 or 40 pages each time of patterns and techniques and it just wasn't enough for them. So to be honest the class will probably never be taught again unless I charge a whole lot of money to each person. I only had one person who I knew truly appreciated the class. The rest are like its free who cares if I am an hour late she will still teach me. That got old fast. but this one person Cheryl came every time called with question it was her first quilt and she did it all completed to. Hers was a twin mine is a king so I did as much as she did and then some but I still have a ways to go. But the difference is she was worth all the effort she went from not being able to thread a needle to being able to explain and help me teach in class by the end.

Isn't it neat when you know you taught one person well, and it will be passed on by them?? I think that is so important. Shame on the other gals for not appreciating you..but that one gal..what a gift for her.

you left one I just have to approve them now days. I was spamed with alot of yucky stuff lately on my blog and I don't want people to read those type of things with out my knowledge so it holds the comment and send it to my email for me to look at and say approved or disapproved. There is a note in yesterdays posts about it. It also told you at the top of the page in very tiny tiny print when you posted that it would have to be reveiwed by the author of the blog. Thank you I will try to remember to post a picture of the quilt when it is all done. I never know when I am going to finish things for myself as I always worry about other peoples projects first.

thanks always to many htings happening at this house it doesn't matter what happens in life there is always something to do and learn. If a person tells me they are board I look at them in wonder. With so much to learn how can a person ever be board. I figure if you are board you did it to yourself. So I like to learn new things and teach new things. next week every day I will be in meetings learning new stuff about finnances from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm every day tuesday thru friday classes. Learning is always good no matter how old or young you are. I love teaching my kids and other people new skills as long as they are sincer in wanting to learn. If you have questions please always feel free to hollar. I will answer what I can.

Sunshine, I love those felt decorations, I think I could make them, just not sure how good I would be with that blanket stitch around the edges. NANCY JO

Yes, Nancy Jo, the blanket stitch is very simple, esp since you already seem to be handy with a needle. I taught myself about a month ago right out of a book. You can do it! Bonnie
