If you are like me -sometimes I need just a little inspiration for the dreaded what's for supper? Tonight I am making one of my husbands favorites-biscuits & gravy.

What are you making?? Maybe it will be an inspiration to someone!

Karla, that sounds so good!! I got a container of frozen chili out of the freezer this a.m. Going to have Cincinatti chili. Biscuits and gravy for sure tomorrow night. Then its winners and sour kraut with cornbread and fried potatoes. Gotta be flexible when someone comes up with something I hadn't thought of.

Karla, I love Pella. One of my favorite towns. We lived in Albia for about a year while DH was working construction. Went to Pella many times. Ordered Dutch letters from Yarsma bakery for years. Is the bakery still there?

Belle, you got my curiosity up. I wondered, "What in the world is Cincinatti Chili??" It's snowing again outside - big sigh - and so I decided I'd find out what it is. I do have electricity and hence the internet so I looked it up. I now have a skillet full simmering on the stove and have all of the toppings read to top. Gonna have a 5-way. :-) It smells good but I sure wouldn't have put that stuff all together on my own!!!

Hey Karla, that sounds good!

I recently had roasted duck while dining out. It had a Pomegranate glaze on it and was served with Braised Greens and Oven Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic. Delicious!

We are having a Cooking Light recipe tonight :)

Bacon Pierogi Bake. I am just serving spinach with it. It is a very filling meal :)

Supper in our house is low key. My DH works 2nd shift (3-11) so lunch is our big deal. But tonight me and my daughter had grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.

Tomorrow lunch is meatloaf with potatoes and corn.

Recently we've had:
Meatloaf
Sloppy Joe's
Marlboro Man Sandwiches (from The Pioneer Woman)

And tonight is homemade chicken and noodle soup. Feeling a little under the weather so the chicken and noodles will definitely hit the spot.

Thank you Mary Beth. Just a yucky throat so far. The chicken noodle soup did hit the spot. I don't know what it is, but when I'm sick I crave carbs. Would have loved some homemade bread w/ the mashed potatoes and chicken noodles soup. lol

Cincinnnatti Chili is the best!!!! i haven't had it for a long time but i love making--and eating- it!!!!

since it's only me at home and i have had gastric bypass i tend to get lazy some days about cooking- yesterday was homework and tv movies and ghost stuff so i just had soem cottage cheese with sugar free orange marmalade mixed in--later i had a chunk of colby cheese and a glass of wine! today i need to eat better!

i miss "family dinners" however i am enjoying living alone!

A big pot of Cajun 15 bean soup is simmering on the stove. Maybe some cornbread or good crunchy whole wheat bread.

Tonight we're having swiss steak with mashed potatoes, probably with green beans. I'm going to make the swiss steak in my digital pressure cooker - love that machine.

Last night when I had my Cincinatti chili, I roasted a hotdog in the fireplace and ate it along with my chili. Really good. Thought I had invented something. Low and behold today I saw a recipe for Cincinatti chili dogs. Don't suppose someone has been looking in my kitchen window?

Today I made whole wheat hamburger and hotdog buns. Had a big ole hamburger with fried onions and peppers. Yummy. I also fixed a batch of red roasted peppers & hummas. Seems like there should be some snacks for the ball game even if no one was here but me.

Belle, we had homemade "Skyline" (one of the local restaurants that serves Cinci chili) last night. I love it.

I'm laughing at the Cincinnati Chili theme in this thread...living in the Cincinnati/Ohio Valley for most of my 37 years, I had to crack up at Belle thinking she'd invented the Coney (all in good fun, Belle).

Quick history: "Cincinnati style chili" is Greek in origin. Two main greek families settled in Cincinnati and each opened their own restaurant. Skyline and Gold Star...the Daoud family, our clients, still own Gold Star. Now...the offshoots. Truly, you haven't had the BEST Cincinnati style chili unless you're a local and know about:

Price Hill Chili
Dixie Chili
Empress Chili
Camp Washington Chili.

These places leave Skyline and Goldstar in the dust, and are still small, mom and pop operations.

We serve our Cincinnati style chili with cheese and onions and oyster crackers, over spaghetti. They start basic as a chili spaghetti, then go 2 way, 3 way, 4 way and 5 way, which is the addition of cheese, onions, beans and fresh garlic over your spaghetti.

As for coneys, they come with cheese, onions and mustard, or simply chili.

As for my dinners, it's been sparse. Husband hasn't been home so I've not been cooking as much as I like. Tonight, though, it's pan seared chicken breasts stuffed with proscuitto and chevre, steamed broccoli and Klamath Pearl potatoes.

I'm having sweet potatoe soup with homemade artisan bread. Maybe I'll steam some broccoli too. Need the veggies to feel better on these ycuky grey days.

Depends on how you're cooking, it, Karla. I like roasted sweet potatoes and carmelized onions with mine - perhaps a little wild rice too. It sounds good! I have a dentist appointment at 4:00 to get a permanent crown, so it's doubtful I'll eat much of anything I can slurp through a straw. I'd just gotten this root-canaled tooth hearty enough to even think about chewing on, now they're going to mess it up again! Oh, well, it certainly won't hurt me to miss a meal! :)
