hey June, I too have heard about the Garnet hunting in ID and there is a area in Montana if you like to hunt for Saphires...unfortunatly I do not know where either are....just heard about them.
Spokane is a very Touristy place, and that's ok, lots of lakes & rivers. There is a walking/bike riding pathway called (I think) the Centennial Trail....keep in mind, from Spokane you are about a good 30 min drive to Coeur d'Alene, & lake CDA as well as MaryJanes shop across from the Resort.
As for Spokane, if you haven't, check out Manito Park, really great & they have an indoor Arbortorhium or how ever it is spelled. The NW Museum is also worth a trip...but as hooky as it sounds, you have to go to Riverfront park and walk around,,,& buy a "Bakers Dozen" of mini donuts from the mini donut vendor...my favorite thing to do. Also, there is a100 year old carrousel there and a Sky ride over the falls, (@ $8.00 a bit pricey) but a must do if you are in Spokane.
That's just a few things to do and if you are antique-addicts, check out Monroe st, there are a lot of shops to have fun in!

I've never done anything like that, but it sounds like it's going to be a very memorable and adventurous event!

I wish you the best time!

June, I am from the Spokane area, & of course love the lakes and things mentioned. I think if you write Meg or MaryJane, they may be able to give you the name of a place I think NE of Moscow ID. I think it was for garnets. Also if you look at the list of places to go and things to do at this website, it might give you some ideas close to Spokane. http://www.visitidaho.org/thingstodo/ Good luck!

I believe the Garnet mine that you are looking for is right outside St. Maries. Let me look it up- we always meant to go there but never quite made it.
