Nini - You aren't going to believe this!
Yesterday was homeschool co-op. I help teach a class, but then I have to wait for my kids to finish up another class. I took my MJF half price book finds from the magazine section to read during my downtime. One of my friends saw the magazine and was excited. She had heard of MJF as well. However...She took her magazine with her to church to show her friends and THEY LAUGHED AT HER!!!
I was appalled. I told her that she's not crazy, that it's wonderful, and that we could be Farmgirls together. Poor thing. I can't imagine being laughed at. How rude. :(

Oh, Marian & Kathy - I so hope your magazines get to you soon!
Kara - don't let your friend feel bad. My own brother makes fun of me for my love of MaryJanes Farm Magazine - he calls me a "hippie," and teases me about being a "flower child," etc... Such a goob! ;) I always send a copy to my sister-in-law, his wife, because she's definitely the kind of farmgirl at heart whose heart would be deeply touched by the magazine. She actually was the first person I thought of when I first found MJF... She homeschools their six children, she has the most amazingly huge garden on their plot of land which feeds their family for a good portion of the year, she has been considering growing their own wheat to make their own flour, she's very organic-conscious, very green, very concerned about the environment, very thrifty, very loving and warm, and deeply Christian. She's just about the best wife and mother on the planet, too. How my brother, God love him, was blessed to have had such a wonderful girl fall so deeply in love with him, I'll never know. ;) Just kidding - he's actually a really great guy who just still thoroughly enjoys teasing his big sister! Despite his purile picking at me, I know deep down he loves and respects me. I'm sure someday he'll "see the MJF light." Right now, he's just got a little bit of growing to do yet. :)
So...To heck with the naysayers and scoffers - we know what's good for us, our families, our communities and our world! Living by example is the best testimony, right? Someday the others will catch on. Good things always have a way of drawing people - just like the aroma of warm cookies fresh from the oven! :)
Hugs - Nini

well girlfriends, I have the perfect spot to build that cottage. Right next to our pond and away from the house. I told my husband that WE have to have it, so, I am planning on building one by myself if I have to. Not sure why he is not interested, must be because he did not think of it first! Anyone want to help me this summer? |

Oh Meg, you guys do good work! I stayed up until 1 am reading my magazine. Then I re-read it the next afternoon. Do you know the photos look different in the afternoon sunlight? Love this magazine!

I'm the only woman outside of this forum that I know of that talks about MJF. Although, I have loaned the mags out..and, a few girls ask if I still read it. Maybe those church ladies are closet farmgirls.

Every issue I have is treasured. There is always something in there that I can relate to. Even being a suburanite. I love the cottage. That is so one of my dreams. lol I am almost able to carry out the all white. I have one child and ashe is a girl. She is getting better about taking care of things. Soon very soon. lol

Every issue is chock full of wonderful stuff. Usually, with my Paula Deen and my BHG magazines, I just go through them and put 80% of the magazine in the fire bin. NOT with MJF!

That house was magical! I also loved the memories story of the woman who stayed in her Grandparents "shed" and then revisited it as a lonesome bride. Such a charming story. Great issue I read it cover to cover!
May you always have a soft breeze in summer, a warm fireside in winter, work for your hands, and the loving smile of a friend close by. |

This was my first issue. I hadn't even seen one before but subscribed at a friends recommendation. At first, I was a little disappointed to realize it wasn't a "hardcore" homesteading magazine. But I love the depth all of the other topics and a woman's touch give it.
I love the milkpaint nod as well. I have a trellis and coldframes that could use a coat of paint, but am finding varying answers on the wisdom of outdoor use.
