Hello all!

I took a hiatus from Farmgirl Philanthropy for the past year but I'm ready to rev 'er back up now!

Anyone want to join me in crocheting or knitting Caps for Good this quarter?

Here's some info:

Caps for Good is a new grassroots initiative that is building on the success of the Knit One, Save One Campaign launched in 2008.

The Caps for Good Campaign will run from November 2010 through February 28, 2011.

Knitters and crocheters of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to make a hat (or two) to help protect infants in some of the word's poorest countries so they survive the first few hours, days and the critical first month of life.

Four million babies die each year within the first month of life in developing countries. A cap is a simple solution, which can provide warmth to newborn babies can help improve their survival.

The Knit One, Save One Campaign involved 12,000 knitters and crocheters from all 50 states. More than 100,000 caps were donated and then distributed through Save the Children facilities in developing countries.

And here's a pdf Caps for Good action kit: http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/files/capsforgoodkit.pdf

I'll add your names here if you'd like to help out:

TheresaB - 25 caps made!
Star - 5 caps made!
Betsy - 20 caps made!
Brenda - 12 caps made!
Debi - 20 caps made!
Linda
Yarnmamma (Linda, too!) - 2 caps made!
Kim - 15 caps made!
Julie - 92 caps made!
Megan - 17 caps made!
Katherine
Mary 5 caps made!
Patricia - 2 caps made!
Hannah
Teresita - 50 caps made!
Rose - 1 cap made!
Tamara - 7 caps made!

The programs deadline is February 28th, so we'll make ours one week prior, February 21. This will allow me to photograph any hats sent directly to me. You may of course send in your hats on your own, it's just fun to get a picture of ALL the Farmgirl made hats together!

Thanks ladies!

I saw the pattern for the caps and it says medium weight yarn.....would that be 4 ply?? That's heavy for a small cap ....I see they are 12 inches around so I'll make some that size but wanted to know who understands the patterns?

I've crocheted baby caps with 4 ply soft yarn, like a Simply Soft. They come out nice and warm, but not too heavy.

The pattern for knitting says cast on 44 stitches...so with 4 ply that would be about the size needed....12 inches.....I remember now, just wanted to know another knitters opinion. I prefer the knitted caps over crochet.

Y'all are awesome! Thank you SO much for helping out!

I've made several caps from regular 4ply, one from baby yarn and one from Simply Soft (which as you know is a bit thinner), all of them work out! I altered the crochet pattern a bit to have a band of alternating post overs instead of a turned up cuff. You can make the pattern work for you as long as the measurements are in the right ballpark.

If anyone wants me to post your cap tally, just let me know!

Hi Theresa! I would love to help out. Depending on how it works, I'll either post pics on the forum, or I'll the caps to you, but I would love to help out!

I would like to help. Can I loom knit caps? I have an infant size loom. I don't know how to crochet or regular knit caps. I can only do afhgans and scarves.
