Does anyone on the forum have a Jack Russell Terrier who suffers from allergies?

That's what the Vet keeps telling us.

Every time fall rolls around Truman ends up with what the vet is calling allergies-He actually nibbles all of the hair off of his paws leaving a chapped and chafed mess. We brought him in yesterday for a prednisone shot (his second since September) and he has been put on Temaril.

Poor thing-he is just miserable...

Any suggestions on how to treat him naturally? I worry about the Prednisone and what that will do to him.

Thanks!

Melody, I have Rat Terriers. They are 13 years old. They're close to the Jacks. And they have more skin problems. And they are allergic to fleas. So I have to keep the flea oil on them. I also give them garlic in their meat.

I hope your little guy gets better. I make a paste with aloe gel and turmeric. I use it on wounds on animals and us. It works so fast. I wish more people would try it. You probably have those 2 things in your house already. Most people have an aloe plant. You can scrape the gel out of the leaves. My hubby is diabetic and he got an ulcer on his foot. It would not heal with the medication the doctor gave him. I read about this paste and made some up and within days, his foot was healed. I will always use this. I had a duck that my dog tore up pretty bad. The feathers were all ripped off his back. I slathered this all over and in days he was ok. I use it on my dogs when they have sores or wounds. It works.

Check out food allergies! A lot of dog foods have corn in them and it is frequently an allergen for dogs. I don't remember the other additives that can be a problem. We use Healthwise food for that reason.

My vet said chewing on paws and between toes is a big indication of food allergies. My lab/shepherd cross has bad food allergies. He has to eat raw dogfood and I finally found a dry kibble that works as well. Fall time my dog eats nuts from the trees and his allergies flair up. Good luck

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!
