Don't buy a Bissell! I used it on maybe 3 rooms and it died! I called the nearest service shop and she told me they were famous for that and I paid under a $100 because it wasn't the BIG one and she told me it would cost about that to fix it. She said there are many people that call in about their Bissell. She told me the best one to buy is a Hoover with the triangular tanks and she said that is the one they have for their rentals. I thought I would pass this information on as a "public service announcement"! I must admit, I have a Hoover floormate that is probably 7-10 years old that I use ALL the time on my floors and it does a great job! Take it for what it's worth.
Now...my question is....what's your experience with rental machines...such as Rug Doctor etc. I never wanted to because I never knew where they'd been or if there could be fleas or nowadays bedbugs and down here roaches...I don't want to bring stuff like that into my home. Any advice is appreciated as I don't think I can afford a new rug shampooer right now....BTW that Hoover is about $250.00 too...I guess you get what you pay for.

Ok....guess what? I threw those car mats in my front loader (washing machine) and VOILA!!! It was do or die and they lived and they are VERY CLEAN and hanging outside on the clothesline drying. I am so proud! Like Winston (Churchill) said...never ever ever ever ever give up! YEY, YAHOO, YIPPEE!!!!!!
Okay...the other plus is that it was garbage day and they hadn't come yet so I dragged the DEAD rug machine to the curb and prayed they would take it but not sure....THEY TOOK IT!!!! It's gone...already...no need for it to take up space anymore! I went off to the library and got some new books and my dessert is baking in the oven....it turned out to be a pretty great day after all! Hope yours was great too!

Yikes! I never thought about bringing home fleas or bed bugs from a rental carpet machine. I found out today Denver is 6th on the list of most bed bug reports. That's just way too close to home! If nothing else, thanks for this heads up!

I bought the Hoover when they first came out. Mine doesn't have any tools and it doesn't have a scrubber. They put those on after I bought mine. But all in all I like it. I bought it at Sam's Club and have had it for well over 10 years. I am secretely hoping it dies so I can get one with a scrubber (oops! I guess it's not a secret anymore!). I've also bought other types of vacumns and they never last but a few years, where the Hoover's just keep chugging along.

Never thought about putting my car mats in the washer! May have to try that. Mine are sitting next to the trash can and I'm resigned to buy new ones.
