I just wanted all my farm girl friends to remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and don't forget to schedule your mammogram and do self exam every month, or at least often enough to notice changes.I had never had a mommagram.
Then nine years ago at age 41 I was doing a self examine and discovered a lump. I was not a every month examer but I did it often enough to notice a difference. Add to that, three months before my best friend was diagnosed with it.
So off to the doctors I went, had a mammogram, ultrasound and a positive diagnosis. Then it was a Lumpectomy, (they rmoved a third of my breast), followed by Chemo, (and yes I did loose my hair) and then Radiation. But I am here and doing good.
So please don't put it off. I only hurts for a moment and the results can keep you here for a long time.

Liz, Thanks so much for posting that reminder, it is something we all need to hear from time to time. And this is the month!
Thankfully, you found your cancer early! My niece went through the same thing at 43, only she had had a clear mamogram a year before she found her tiny lump. There was no history of Breast Cancer in her family either! She had chemo and radiation. Some insurance companies don't want to pay for yearly mamograms, her's was one of those. She just walked yesterday in a SBK Breast Cancer walk. She also does the Dragon Boat Races with other Breast Cancer Survivors. She lives in the Charlotte area.
Thanks again - and continued health to you.
Hugs, Ruth

...agree! It is important to be checked! My Mom had two different kinds of breast cancer, two years apart. It was through the mammograms that these were detected.

My favorite shirt, which I have is "Fight like a Girl!"
..about few years back a friend of my oldest daughter mentioned to her that she fights like a girl (church picnic fun time). My daughter had said :D'UH"! So I had to have that very shirt!!!

I watched a bit of football with my husband last night and in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness all the NFL teams are wearing pink items during games. They have pink sweat clothes, pink parts on their gloves, and pink shoes!

I hope all are getting their mammograms. The football players are wearing pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
