Has anyone done them? We are going to try.
Our kitchen flooded from a old drain pipe that wore out. We got insurance money for repairs, but want to make them stretch. So we are doing most of the work ourselves.
Granite is too pricey & the formica tops were already worn out after only 5 years.
We have seen come concrete ones online, in books & decided to test it out on one of the old cabinet, but thought that some clever farmgirls may have already made some and have some wisdom.

yes i do have a small amount of wisdom for you. they need to be glass smooth and you need to seal them. we had concrete i took it out and put in granite. you can buy granite slabs around here for a good price, we did not seal and the concrete wore off on the dishrag.ours was sooo pretty but i dont like having to use a toxic sealer so went to granite. love it. just a thought happy days sherrye

If I was redoing my sink I would look for an old porceline one with the drainer on one side. Check out craigslist, recycle.com and junk yards. When I wanted Clawfoot tubs for my garden I found them that way. Also we have a place in our paper to ask if anyone has anything we may want and one year I asked for old ringer washing machines and got 3 free. Just had to pick them up. Just a thought.

They are very very heavy. I am an appraiser & have seen some where the homeowners did not anticipate the weight & there was some collapse of cabinetry underneath\ due to inadequate bracing. |

Thanks we are putting in new cabinets with reinforcement for the weight. Some of the same problems are happening with granite too.
