For you ladies who have gone through it or are going through it now or know that you are at the onset...could you help a gal out here. :)

Did you ever feel like you were ready to bust out of your skin? lol I know, it sounds crazy, but I swear that it feels like my body is doing this fight sequence on the inside and my skins just sort of holding it all in.
My GYN says that I am starting all the fun things to prepare for menopause. I am soooo NOT ready for this!
I'd love a heads up on what to expect. Is it going to be all bad? Will I continue to be this hormonal basket case for the rest of my life? (You laugh, but that's really what it feels like.)

I thought maybe my farmgirls sisters could help me out on this one. ;)
hugs
Jessie

Jessie, I know just how you feel. I have been in "mental pause" for awhile now. At first I felt like I was going crazy. I was crawling out of my skin, crying at the drop of a hat, wanting to throw stuff...you get the picture. I have sort of tapered off of the crazies now. My GYN says there is no light at the end of the tunnell. Once you are menopausing you are menopausing. I wanted to rip his face off. He did say that it does level off at some point. I think maybe we just get used to it. I have some hot-flashes, but don't find them too disturbing since I am always cold. I am trying some natural supplement that I got from my health food co-op. I am also taking flax seed oil. I tell you one thing, when it comes to intimacy I am just a cold fish. I just don't have any desire anymore. My Sister thinks I need some hormones. She is taking some bio-identical hormones. They are supposed to be better than plant or animal derived ones. I just am going to keep trying some natural homeopathic stuff. Maybe some more wine would help with the cold fish thing! LOL, my DH would be out buying cases of wine if it worked.

Jessie, you are way too young to be even starting this. I don't know though. My DD is 31 and she thinks she may be at the beginning stages. So maybe people are going through it earlier now. I just quit having the periods about 1 1/2 years ago. Just quit. I never had hot flashes or any indications at all. A few years before that I had stopped for about 6 months then wham! started back and had 3 periods in a month to make up for the 6 months I guess. Then awhile later stopped and haven't had any since. So I guess I have had a very easy time of it. My mom did too. And I have always heard you'll be like your mother.

I sure hope you aren't. You need a few more kids yet!

Lucky you Kris!! I am the hot flash queen & because of the embarassing feeling (sweating like a big fat pig at the drop of a hat..around my eyelids, under my boobs & in my butt crack)..I have become slightly antisocial when the activity is in a closed place. I need to overcome this in the next month, as I am going to see Kristin Chenoweth on Broadway. I will suffer through that, sweat or no!!!!
I have been taking an all natural product called Amberen, which is purported to help the hypothalmus send messages to the girl parts to get movin!! It is mainly minerals & amino acids. I felt improvement in the 1st week, but this week have been sweating a great deal again. It has helped a great deal with my foggy thinking though.
I agree Jessie, you are pretty young for this. Try to cut out sugar & white stuff. That may help.
Men have it so easy. They just walk around with their hangy down parts & get a finger up the a^*&^ every 10 years.

Hey Jessie! Welcome to the great big wild west lol! I have been going through the meno thing since my early 40's. I think that a lot of my anxiety and not feeling good in my own skin feelings these years have been Menopause...I no longer have Aunt Flo', but I have the too hot-too cold issues still. I feel still in limbo....no libido sometimes and sometimes I'm ok (blush)...Keep hydrated when you get the "flashes" and sometimes just splashing off in the
sink or a quick shower helps me "re-balance". I'll help with what I can, My doctor doesn't believe in helping women through it chemically, so I have been going through with out much support that way...talk to your Gyn or family doc about options definitely.

Love to you Sister

I thought I was way too young too, but, when I talked to my GYN she said that women are getting them earlier just like girls are starting their "friend" earlier. The earlier you start your friend, the earlier menopause will kick in. She said that most women begin menopause around 35 but never have "official" menopause until their 50s when their friend stops. She told me that even though I just had a baby 8 months ago, that all that really did was delay the process for 9-10 months.
My friend is so messed up right now. Visits all weird times of the month, sometimes twice, sometimes late. I don't mind that so much as the roller coaster of emotions and the hot flashes!!! Phew! Starts in my chest and I swear they work their way right up through the tips of my ears in and to the top of my head! Have any of you noticed your hair falling out? Mine is making me feel like I've got the mange or something...bluh..lol
I know that this is all normal, and for that I am thankful. Imagine! I am normal about something for a change..haha!
I'm thankful for the support, humor, and experience of you ladies. Somedays, you all pull me through.
:)
hugs

I can't spell, my hair is thinning, my middle is expanding, I have more hair on my legs these days, I have hot flashes so bad I feel like peeling my skin off, there are days when I wake up and think " do I want to run through the woods screaming at the top of my lungs or become addicted to infomercials today, I feel squirmmy in my skin, there are days when I am sure every symptom is a step to death, puppy chow commercials can send me to tears, car part commercials can send me to tears, just a few of the things to look forward to.......

In all seriousness ( all though I have or have had all these things happen), making sure you cut out alot of sugars, up the protein, take extra B vitamins , flaxseed, and evening primrose tablets have helped me alot along with a couple yin yoga classes tossed in a week for good measure....

Well, I am noticing alot of hair in the tub after I wash it. And I am a little more emotional. Didn't know those were part of it. I have been taking Evening Primrose oil for years so maybe that's helped me. And I am grinding flax seed and putting it in my smoothies. I think I need to look into getting some B complex and start that. I do get really irrate at the drop of a hat sometimes. SO maybe I am not as lucky as I thought with all this. But I am SO glad I don't have those horrible hot flashes. I don't like to be hot at all. Oh, and the last few years I have a hard time getting warm in the winter. I never thought I would not like winter but since I turned 50 a few years ago, I don't like the cold. I just thought it was getting old.

howdy farmgirls, i too have spent years suffering with the hot flashes etc. i hate it for sure. early into this i learned to gress in layers so i can strip off as i get hot. make up would run down my face. for me i found lots of personal care products would trigger the hot flashes. i had known thet round up and other chemicals mimiced estrogen and made thigs worse. i had gotten so sensitive wallmart was one bih hot flash day as was macys etc. raw milk seems to help. its probably all the good fats in it at work. perfumes have petro chemicals in them so they are a strong trigger also. just a thought. happy days sherrye

Jessie Have you had your thyroid checked? Wacky thyroid levels can make you have alot of the same symptoms of menopause, even cause your periods to be crazy and hair to fall out. Of course you won't get the sympathy for wonky thyroid as menopause but it's worth checking. LOL

Kathy-I haven't had it checked in a long time. Not since I was expecting Charlie. So, last year sometime.
I'll take the lack of sympathy if it's thyroid, there's medicine for that..lol ;)

I'm hypothyroidal (low functioning Thyroid) and it stinks. I am cold and have dry skin, thinning hair, fits of nerves and depression and I gain weight just like that if I'm not ruthless....ok, I've gained weight anyway, but, some people respond better to the medicines than others do...I hope you aren't hitting menopause, You DO seem too young to me. But there is a pre-menopause state known as perimenopause...I have a pretty good book floating around the house some where I'll see if i can find it and send it off...if I can find it =

Well, I started the whole thing with menopause when I was 38 and my doctor kept saying I was to young for menopause but didn't mention peri-menopause so I muddled through and finally stopped having my periods when I was 45.
I did get the book by Dr. John Lee and started using the natural progesterone. That seemed to help, plus b vitamins and borage oil. I went through the night sweats, don't have them as bad anymore, but the hot flashes still come. My mil is 69 and still has hot flashes as did her mom until she was in her late 70's. :( My mom and sister and I all went through the everything drove us nuts phase and a still have those moments. Just ask my husband. My kids were not as young as yours at the time so I'm sure it would add to things.
Sorry Jess, it ain't looking that grand for ya.
love ya,
~mom~

...it's all normal Jessie!
It is just on different levels for all women... some takes longer, some get through it quicker.
Mine is messing with my "focus". At times I feel like that I am loosing my mind because I can't exactly remember things on short term.
I really dislike this part of it. Hot Flashes.. I feel like that living in the South is a bad idea for this stage of my life... because even in the winter when everyone is all bundles up, I am in shorts and tanks.. and feels like the humidity never stops.... but what keeps me going is... "That shall too pass" The question is when? (shrugs)

Oh the memory thing is the worse. I can handle the skipped "friend" or the change in length, but I can't remember from one second to the next. Lots of water!! I can always tell when I haven't and hadn't thought about connecting it to perimenopause. Such fun.

I started menopause over 2 years ago. The hot flashes were so bad that every 20 mins or so at work, I would turn beet red and sweat like a pig. I couldn't have that, it looks pretty unprofessional, and I couldn't sleep at night without a beach towel. I tried every natural herb I could find to no avail, finally the Dr put me on a low dose of drugs. Everything stopped and life is somewhat normal again. Sometimes you just gotta.

I hear ya on the sweating thing. I am buying a new brand of deodorant every weekend trying to get one to help. It's the pit..literally...lol O:)
It does make for interesting times. Thankfully, its still warm so tank tops help tremendously.

I know this sounds funny, But I am Loving the whole menopause thing ! I am 52 but I sure don't feel it. With menopause I have kind of begun to figure out who I am.
I married at 18 had 2 kids by 21. All of my 20's 30's and most of my 40's I was busy being someone's wife or mom.
Since I turned 50 I am trying all kinds of things ! I bought a scooter and have had a blast riding it the last 3 summers. This year I decided to move up to something bigger and now I'm learning how to ride a motorcycle. I am enjoying traveling , going to spend first week in Oct in NYC and planning a vespa scooter trip through Italy in 2 years. Today I saw a piece on TV about a 90 year old woman who went skydiving.Heck I might give it a try.
I found out resently that I am going to get laid off for part of the winter, Jan through March or April. I am checking out class schedules at the local college. I always wanted to be a teacher and while I might not go for a full degrea I am going to try to get enough over the next 2 years that I can be an aide at the elementary school. I think that soulds like a fantastic way to end my working career !
Yes I do have some of the heat flashes and sleepless nights that come with this, but heck I'm saving a fortune not having to buy femminine products !

I have to giggle at these posts even though it's not so funny when you're dealing with this stuff. I turn the fan on, my husband turns it off, I turn it back on and he turns it off again, I want to hang a sign that says " Touch that fan again and you're a dead man!" Boohooing, forgetfulness, flashes, trouble sleeping, terrible temper, I'm becoming more of a homebody. One of the things that really bugs me is the doggone wirey hairs growing out of my chin, I absolutely cannot stand that. Is there anything that can stop it ? I hate to admit I shave it off every day because I simply will not tolerate a "beard". Actually it's only a few but very coarse, long and noticable. Nope, no sir, I don't like it one bit !

Wow - I am amazed at the misinformation being thrown about! I guess folk tend to think of menopause as a thing, unchanging...it's not. It's different for everyone. Trends run in families but just because mom went through it one way doesn't necessarily mean anything about your path through. Some of it may last the rest of your days, or it may all stop as suddenly as it started. You can start going through perimenopause at practically any age - I know someone who started in her early 20s. Any doctor who says otherwise hasn't kept up with the last 30 years of research. Having said that....there are trends that many follow. Purifying your environment of the more easily gotten rid of chemicals can help some folk, as can eating better. So much to deal with, men have no idea how easy they have it :)

OK, this will probably sound very strange. I can't even believe I'm thinking it after years of wishing to be done, no more period, cramps, etc. I'm now in the skipping stages and it feels like something is missing?

I second the suggestion to have your thyroid checked. Many doctors don't suggest this and it helps many women. My doctor kept telling me it was approaching menopause and that my thyroid wasn't "that bad". After years of suffering, an endochronologist actually said - I can't believe your primary care doctor let this go. A few months on meds and I was a new woman. Helped the skin, hair, emotions, etc., etc. Also, in the last few years the normal standard for thyroid function has been changed - but many doctors cling to the old numbers, telling their patients they are within the normal range when they aren't. Have it checked.

Oh I know this is frustrating but I just had to laugh at the wiry hairs. lol! I get them too but I refuse to shave them so I pluck. Shaving doesn't get rid of them altogether and plucking them will cause them to come in less coarse.
