I just got my first hand powered grain mill and ground some beautiful wheat flour. Any advice from those who have used them before?

What name brand of mill did you purchase? This is something I'm investigating. Was it difficult to grind? Did it grind fine or coarse?

We are looking at a Country Living, non electric, can be hooked to electric if need be, anyone tried this before...?

We did indeed get the Country Living Grain Mill. We had investigated and that looked like high quality that we thought would last for us.We didn't get the power hook up so we are grinding by muscle power. It is quite a work out but I can handle it easily and I am 62, although a healthy very active 62. The grind is adjustable from very coarse to very fine. Of course the finer the grind the more muscle power it takes to turn it. I made cookies with my first flour and was very happy with the result.

Hey Girls- I have had my Country Living Grain Mill for 3+ years now and LOVE it! Ours is hooked up to a motor but can easily be disconnected if the power is out and I need to use it. I grind enough berries to fill a gallon ziplock bag and keep it in the freezer so when I am needing to make up something I can just grab the bag and be set. I have milled everything from wheat berries to black beans and it handles everything just fine. When you first start baking with freshly ground flour you will find that the recipe may need a little tweeking due to the freshness of the flour, mainly the moisture portion of the recipe. I highly reccomend this grain mill, not only is it made in the USA but their customer service is great too!
