Beverly... Mr.P has heartworms. At that time he (Vet) did not have the right treatment for Mr.P's size... 47 lbs. So, it was ordered and we are waiting to hear from him this week. I promise to keep y'all posted.
We received a generous check from a group that I also hang out at on dogster.com, group called Snoops ... they sent donations for Mr.P's healthcare. They're a great part of the reason that we are able to keep Mr.P. So, in many ways.. they all rescued Mr.P..... I am truly blessed to know many great people across this land.. and a great blessing to be among them!!!! (this include y'all too!)

Karrieann, that is so neat that all these people are able to help you with his care. Sorry he has heart worms but so glad you're able to get him the right treatment. It sounds like that dog will have a very happy life there.

Karrieann, What a blessing to not only get Mr P - but then to be able to treat him with the help of many other doggy lovers! He'll be in my prayers as he under goes heart worm treatment. Thanks for keeping us posted on the precious little guy. So glad Abigail is accepting her new brother. I can just picture Mr P in Abigail's sling - I know he would never fit - but it would be cute Give them both "doggy hugs" from me please! Oh, and one for you too! Hugs, Ruth

Karrieann, you will never believe this but two weeks ago I was dropping some stuff off at the PO and found a basset mix puppy laying next to the dumpster, covered in fleas and dehydrated. She was so sick bless her. We already have three dogs that have been dumped here. I HATE PEOPLE WHO DUMP DOGS. If I see someone dump a dog I tell you what I could go crazy. Anyway, we took her to the emergency vet, got her some fluids and some medicines and she is just full o pickles now. We are both august 2010 basset adopting sisters! WHen I get batteries for my camera I will post some piccies of Sigrid Bluebell. She isnt quite as droopy cute as your fella. BLESS YOU FOR TAKING IN THIS BOY.
The lab that got dropped off here last year had heart worms too. It is such a relief to get that last dose of heartworm medicine in them and get them over that last hump. fat people are harder to kidnap.

Awwe Sarah! Thank you for taking in Sigrid as your own! I do not understand people who do things like that at all.. especially when there available resources to surrender the four legged kids.
Mr.P and Abigail are getting along just wonderfully! I was so proud of my Abigail.. she was chewing on a chewie... then she decided that she was done with it before finishing it. Mr. P (he had his own already) wanted to finish it. She watched him go to it and she didn't care! I am so proud of my two kids!

Sarah, I am so glad you found that poor little puppy. That is so sad that someone could just throw her away like trash.
It sounds like Mr. P is doing great, Karrieann.

Sarah, I also am sickened by people who do such horrible things to animals. They're heartless and probably treat humans the same way. I am SSSOOO happy you found that poor baby and that she's going to have a forever loving home!!! Sigrid and Mr. P are angels that have endured the unthinkable waiting for their forever families to find them!! Bless you and Karrieann!! Hugs to all of you, Lin

Just an update, Mr. P has received his first injection for the heart-worm treatment on past friday. Just shortly after we got home... 30 minutes ....he got real lethargic and unable to sit or lay down and was panting hard. We returned to the vet. Mr. P 's vitals were all fine. Doc gave him another injection... to help him be comfortable. Mr. P was able to rest and sleep. Saturday morning, we went back to the vet for Mr. P to receive his second injection for the heart-worms. They kept Mr. P. for an hour to observe him. He was okay this time around. He came home with us and rested all of Saturday and Sunday... so far today too. That is the best thing for Mr. P to do for himself now... rest for four to six weeks and then be checked again for the progress of eliminating the heart-worms! Keep Mr. P in your prayers please. He is literally fighting for his life agains the worms and the poison that is killing them worms. I am in positive mode for his prognosis. He wags his tail as he sees us. He slowly waddles to the yard to do his business and rests in the glorious sunshine, which acts like a heating pad onto his injection sites.. muscular area .
I thank the Lord for directing Mr. P to here (my home... his home too !)

Thank you Sarah and Karrieann, you are both blessings to me and to your fur babies! Karrieann, the most important thing is to keep Mr P quiet while on the treatment. I'm sure they have told you all the dos and don't with him. He is a blessed little boy to have picked ya'll for his family, you are very special to take in a sick doggy. Sarah, I can't believe how people treat their animals. I have a third dog, because one day I was at WalMart and a lady had puppies in a buggy giving them away. All I could see in my mind was this little guy being tied to a tree in the sun with no food or water. So many people here in the mountains are mean to their dogs. So I brought him home. He has been such a joy. He had mange, but we treated that for a long time, and he is all better. He celebrated his first birthday July 4th. His name is BarneyBoy Rumble. He loves to wrestle with our 3 yr old minature Australian Shepherd. We also have a 13 year old westie mix, also a rescue. They are the best! I have a basset granddog that lives in Colorado, also a rescue! Enough about my fur babies - love those puppies! Hugs, Ruth

People some times do not desure pets who love you no matter what you do to them. One can not help but think if they do these kind of things to a dog, cat, etc. What do they do to other people or God forbid kids. lover of pets. Lilly

Karrieanne, I was thinking about you the other day. I have a shelter dog that brings us so much joy, and was with her the other day and you and Mr. P. popped into my head. I was going to shoot you and email to see how you and Mr. P. are doing, and then I just saw the link here. I am so sorry to hear that Mr. P. has heartworms! I hope all goes well for his treatment. Please keep us posted. You are just a doll for all that you do.
Hugs to you,
Nicole

Thank you Nicole ...Ruth, everyone! Mr.P is resting comfortably. He is currently laying in the sunshine. He is such a good boy, not asking for much but love, roof over his head, four-legged friend. He is getting all of that and more. He is Abigail and my protector! My husband and I play this game of surprising (startling) each other un-expectantly . Hubby got me good the other day and I scream in surprise. Mr.P waddled as fast as he could in his speed to my rescue! hehehehe so sweet! Last night Abigail was on a chase of a young possum. In her excitement she bayed in high pitch which could be mistaken for a yelp... there he is! Mr. P slowly waddling his way to where Abigail was, to help her. I had this image of Dudley Do-Right. Yup, Mr. P. in spite of his weak health... is our hero!

Aw! That is too cute, Karrieann. He seems to have fit quite well into his new family. I am so happy for you all. I love reading all this about him. I do hope these treatments work and he will be ok. I didn't know it was such a long drawn out process. I guess I was thinking about the heartworm prevention pills they take once a month. But these are really aggresive treatments apparently.
Sarah, how is your little pup?

| OMG, I'm in love with that face. Just look at those sad eyes, I want to kiss his sweet snout. Thank Heavens for people like you, who would take this Fur Angel in and care for him. I don't think it was a coincidence that he came to you, I'm so happy you decided to keep him. Just Love him and he'll Love you and be Faithful to you forever. I will keep this Sweet Angel in my prayers and hope for a speedy recovery. |

Kathy.. we are keeping him. :o)
Kris.. the heart-worm preventives are once a month thingy. Mr.P is heart-worm positive... which is why this is critical stage for him, the two injections that he received are to kill the adult and baby worms. The reason it takes a month because the worms are all in his blood stream. (I saw the baby worms under the microscope , it was sickening to know that there were a worm for every blood cells!) Mr.P's body has to expel these soon-to-be dead worms. The danger is they could enter his lungs.. which is why I was informed to bring him in immediately if he begins to cough... these are rare but could happen. Mr.P is to rest and not exert himself. If he breaths hard from exercise and such.. that could set him into coughing. So.. the wait continues till we revisit the vet after four weeks.. I am amazed at what I learn.. and angers me to know that all of this could have been prevented by the previous owners. These treatments from the doctor cost well over $300.00... where as the preventive stuff is a fraction of that! (shakes my head in disbelief)
I appreciate all of you praying for Mr.P and myself.. we need them! I have my moments of my eyes overspilling with tears....... (like now) (((HUGS)))

Mr.P 's have been upgraded to Mr. Peabody. It has been over two weeks since his heart-worm treatment shots. He is till resting.. as the Doc ordered. If you are familiar with Winnie The Pooh stories, Eeyore the poor "woe is me" donkey is the best description of Mr. Peabody! He is doing well so far.. no danger side-effects have occurred. The wait goes on. Thanks for continued prayers... I look forward to the days that He is out of the woods!!!!!

Karrieann, Thanks for updating us. You know you are an angel on earth for taking in a stray dog and having him treated and giving him such a loving home. I hope he gets 100% real soon.
