I was watching the nightly news last night I think and just caught the tail end of a story. In Arkansas a few nights ago there where thousands of blackbirds that just fell from the sky dead all over this one town. And also in a town in Lousiana about the same time. Did anyone else hear this? I mean there were dead birds all over the streets and trees and roofs. Really scary. I think it must have been new year's eve because they are saying it could have been from fright from all the fireworks? Hmmm. Then why aren't there dead birds on July 4th? I have not seen or heard anything else about this since. Very strange indeed.

Kris I heard about that too. They also had an area of water where 100's of fish died without a reason. They are running tests but so far nothing. Strange!!! I do not know what these means but it sure has folks in a buz about it - I hear even some folks are saying Aliens - Great I was just watching the X files and had to giggle...

I just heard on the noon news that there were 4000-5000 birds in a one mile radius just outside Little Rock. At night. Birds normally do not fly at night. Some say it could have been fright and trauma from fire works. Some say lightening or hail. But still nothing. They are testing them to see. Still very strange. Oh, and some are saying aliens did it.
Grace, where were the dead fish found?

Why would it affect just one type of bird? A virus maybe?
An update this morning on the news mentioned some birds are still dying-slowly. Sounds like something out of a Stephen King novel.

According to the story on NPR, there is no evidence connecting the two incidents. Beebe, Arkansas, is about 40 miles northeast of Little Rock and Ozark is about 125 miles away from Beebe near the Oklahoma border. The carcasses are being tested. The thinking as of now is that the birds might have been hit by lightning or hail, or might have been startled and confused by fireworks. In the other case, only one species--drum fish--were found dead. So diseas is thought to be the most likely culprit. The update at 11:15 a.m. ET, January 4 is that the evidence continues to point to fireworks as the likely cause of the birds' death.

Then why just the one breed of bird? All I saw were Red-Winged Blackbirds. That's what's so strange to me. And why in another state did the same thing happen the same night? It is like a scary movie for sure.

It's really kind of freaky to me and so far I am not please with the answers they are giving...if it was a loud noise or lighting storm, why don't we find them all over the place all of the time???

| If it was a disease that killed the fish, they wouldn't all die at the same time, I'd imagine. Disease has to spread, although it can happen rapidly, I can't imagine it killing that many fish in one night instead of, in a period of weeks or months. |

I heard they also found dead birds in La also.
I think it is a cover up of some type. Red winged black birds hang out near water don't they? Could some type of toxin have gotten in to the water which would have killed the fish and the birds ingested the warer down stream and died too?
What ever the problem I really don't believe it was fire works, lighting or hail. I'm sure the gov't will never tell us what really happened.
Just my thought on the subject.

Very good points, y'all. None of it makes sense to me at all. I wish there was more news about it. It's like I heard a few little things and that's it. Why? And the few people that were interviewed acted like it was no big deal at all. I would not drink the water.

Can a fish "catch" what a bird has? Can viruses cross over like that?
Has anyone ever heard of an incident like this occurring before? I can't.
I don't think we will be getting any answers anytime soon...Who can you trust anymore?

Kris I agree - you think we would hear more unless it was something that should not have been told to us in the first place. I hate to sound like on of those nutters but I am sure that if only we know what was really being done out there we might stand up and take arms. We are more concerned on who is in rehab and which store has the lowest prices then knowing what is being done to us and our planet. I don't watch the news very often and this is one reason why.
As for something crossing species lines - I think we can thank all the pesticide companies for that!! We have weakend everyone's natural ability to stay off things - the monsters are coming home to visit us. Don't I sound like "Chicken Little"? Really, it even frightens me sometimes.

I,too, thought the likely culprit would be a water born pollutant. I mean why so many at once? Why only red-winged black birds? This is so strange, so eery. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the testing laboratory finds the cause and perhaps measures can be made to prevent this for happening this again. I feel sorry for the people living in that area...I mean how scary for them. I saw one man on the news say he wasn't letting his children outside because he wanted answers first. I really can't blame him it would just make you wonder...how horrible for them and really for all of us.Yikes!!!!

Y'all need to google Beebe, Ar. I just did. There is so much being said about this and all of it is crazy. One said they flew into power lines. Yesterday, while sitting at the longest red light in Ga. waiting to turn left, I saw thousands of blackbirds swirling around. And they ALL landed on those big huge power lines. They almost covered the whole thing. I thought it was just amazing how they are all not electrocuted. But they weren't. Birds sit on power lines all the time.
Then another says it could have been a mid air collision? Of the 17 birds tested so far, they died of blunt force trauma to organs. Well, if you fell hundreds of feet from the sky...And they were all in a 1.5 square mile area.
Some say it was from bad weather. There was a tornado on Friday but the bad weather was gone a long time before the birds were killed.
Then, there is Pine Bluff Chemical Weapons Arsenal just 57 miles SouthWest of Beebe. Winds were blowing towards Beebe. 6 weeks ago, the Army reported to the media that they'd completed a 2 year project of burning nerve and mustard gas agents in an open air incinerator. This facility held 12% of all chemical weapons in the US.
I would definetely not let my kids outside. Or animals either. Til they gave me some answers.
And yeah, most birds do not fly at night. And again, if it were fireworks, why weren't there other animals or birds killed? And why just there? And in Louisianna? Just strange.

I just saw that a bunch of birds in Sweden came crashing down just like Ar, but not nearly as many.
I stand firm that our gov't is behind it but we will never know what is really going on.

I just saw on the news tonight that Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News is going to have a whole story on the dead birds Monday night. We are supposed to be getting about 6" of snow Monday so I probably won't be able to see it with satellite. Any kind of weather knocks the recption out. So y'all watch it Monday night and let me know what he says.
