| I was just browsing through this category and thinking how very lucky you are who are able to be living in the country, on farmland or just with some room around you. Thru financial difficulties I am now living in an apartment, not an ideal place for someone who was raised on NW Ohio farmland. As I get older I find myself longing to move back out where I can garden, have some chickens, some quiet and space, watch the weather and seasons change, the beauty of sunrise and sunset. So, those of you who have this, please always consider yourself blessed |

Have you thought about renting a room on a farm, renting a spot for a small trailer. Is there any public/community gardens near you. Keep your dream alive about going back to what you love, and I will pray that someday it happens for you.

I know I'm blessed to have my little 3.5 acres. I wish you could have the same or more. I was in a mobile home 2 years ago in a mobile home park. We had the smallest lot there. I grew tomatoes in five gallon buckets and lettuce and herbs in flower boxes on a table by the living room window. Maybe you could grow some lettuces and some carrots in a flower box on a table by a window. You can get paris market carrots through seed savers catalogue and the are shaped like radishes, short and round. It's not the same, but I found my lettuces year round were better for my peace of mind than house plants were. It made me feel productive.

We are truly blessed but as some of the others have said, we haven't always been on these farms. I, too, have lived in apartments, etc. and wasn't able to garden because we moved with construction and it was expensive enough to move our things much less plants and we only stayed someone usually 3-6 months. We did this for about 8 years. Hang on to your dream and do babysteps as they say by growing things in pots, etc. Have you thought of growing herbs on your windowsills, maybe? I have seen some lovely and very productive plants in pots. I wish you could find something like you dream of but don't give up! Also, even thought we moved on a farm, there were several years that we weren't able to have a garden because of serious illness and other issues in the family in the family. I do have a garden this year and it is the first in about 3 years because we gained custody of 3 grandchildren and if you don't think that can throw your course off! The youngest was 1 and my husband works out of town most of the town and I couldn't do a whole lot outside but it has been nice this year as he is three. Just don't give up! I will pray that you will just find the perfect spot for all the things you love. If I can help you in any way (right now I don't know how), please don't hesitate to write me.

| I remember years ago we had to move. We left our ranch in Colorado and moved to a 1 rm apt. outside St.Louis. I went from bottle calves to no pets. I thought I'd go nuts. My hubby bought me 10 gal. aquarium till we could move. |

Hugs to you. I have learned to be content with wherever I am. Longing for what I didn't have made me miss the beauty in what I do have. That doesn't mean that I don't dream of a place where I can have the garden the size I want and some chicken and goats. I dream of a place where the grandkids can come and visit and spend the day outside with me climbing trees, gathering eggs, reading on a hammock in the shade, tramping through the woods and picking wild berries.
Dreams are part of the babysteps for getting there. But, being content with what I have is also part of getting there.

| Thank you for your hugs and advice and kind words and for taking the time to answer someone you don't even know. I have days confident I will get to where I want to go and other days I fee hopeless, so normal I guess...I am trying to get outside when I need to even for a walk or a hike in the park and trying to keep my chin up and work to realize my dreams . Patricia-I was just thinking about and writing about this today. Home is where the heart is. Thank you for reminding all of us how truly blessed we are to have a roof over our heads. While some days it might not be our perfect dream-we can hold a special place in our minds and in our heart that we can go to.

Patricia, I definitely do feel blessed to be where we are. We have been here for 2 1/2 years now and it's where my heart is. This was our 19th move and the one before this lasted 2 years. It took that long to find just what we were looking for. It was rough living in a very tiny rental house but well worth craming 5 people, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 lizards, and as much of our posessions as we could in it. I didn't want to rush into finding our home and was so glad for taking our time. We are all happy here. I've told Bill on occasion my next move will be into a nursing home as I'm finished with the moves. Of course, if something ever came up where we had to move again I'd do it for him, but I'm not making any plans. Cheer up and remember things are always changing. Home is where you hang your hat and if it's not in the country at the moment it may very well be in the near future.

Patricia, I think alot of us here can relate to how you are feeling. Just stay as positive as possible and know that God always has a plan and although it may not be the ideal situation, he provides a path to get you where you want to go
