I must be having a mid-life crisis. If that's true then I should be able to live until I'm 106. Three weeks ago, I had all my upper teeth extracted for health issues. I ate nothing but pureed food for a week. Everything on my plate resembled different shades of barf....really! But surprisingly enough I managed to lose 5 pounds in that week.... So, I colored my hair from "Grandma Gray" to dark brown. That was a major ego booster and I have even been letting my usual "chewed-to-the-nuckle, dirt-stained" fingernails grow to the point that I had my first manicure (ever) last Thursday....I was on a roll so, I decided to get a haircut. After years of wearing real long hair, off it came.....and I gotta say, IT LOOKS MAAAAVELOUS, daaaling!! It is cut in long layers and it weighs alot less and it is actually "swingy". Is that a word? Anyway,I felt soooo good when I got home from getting my new haircut, I spent the next 21.48 minutes (1 mile) on the treadmill with The Best of Michael Jackson playing in the background. I've always loved his music to dance to and it sure makes ya move your feet on a treadmill.... So, on the 4th of August, I'm getting dental impressions made and should have my new smile 5 days later.....Did I say I'm thinking about getting contacts too?...This sure sounds like a midlife crisis to me.....what do ya think? Debbie

It sounds to me like you're making some changes that are GOOD for you. I don't think I'd call it a crisis . . . I certainly understand because I'm at the point in my life where I'm thinking about doing some changing up!!! I say . . . GO FOR IT!!!! We all need changes that give us a boost and make us feel rejuvenated and re-energized!!!! CJ

That sounds great, Debbie. And fun too. I need a change. I am in the biggest rut ever. And I can't get out. I need to visit you and get some of your energy! Have fun and this is the best thing you can do for YOU.

Good for you Debbie! I'm sure after years of "doing" for everyone else, you are finally taking the time for YOU! It happens to all of us. I get so caught up in making sure everyone else is ok...meanwhile my "roots" should have been done 2 inches ago!!

I had to look twice to see if you were my neighbor or not. She just had her top teeth done and lost over 5 lbs. and described food the same way you did. Colored her hair but it never was long..You sound so happy!! Way to go...

Definitely not a crisis. That is wonderful that you are making those changes. I've been coloring my hair for about 2 years now because I'm just not ready to go gray. You go girl!!!!

Naaaa
No crisis there!
Sounds like self improvement
That's one of my major bad dreams-- is having all my teeth fall out. So in real life I'd be really bummed and scared and super sad.
Happy to know you are taking care of yourself! |

I was just talking with my daughter on Sunday, she was visiting from the Phoenix area . . . about going and getting my hair "chopped off". She looked at me and said (she's 38 and I'm 61) "well-ll-ll, just don't do anything TOO radical|!"
I'm thinking . . . . but I don't want it to be more work than it already is!!!!!
So, yep . . . we all need to take care of our own little selves a lot more frequently than we do!!!! CJ

Debbie I think the reason some folks call it a midlife crisis is because they are "freaked out" to see someone change. All of your changes sound wonderful....your just bloomin'. I think women turn toward themselves and men look to others or things to make them feel better. Men have given the midlife think a bad rap. I say go forth and conquer your new world. And donn't forget to get a pedicure along the way:) Barbara

You go girl. Somehow we never take care of ourselves until one day we look at ourselves and realize if we don't do it nobody will do it for us. Always taking care of everyone else! I'm really going to have a crisis because come J-F-M I will be wintering in FLORIDA and DH doesn't know it yet. I guess you cold say he'll be having the crisis! Tired of his antics all these years and finally doing someyhing for me. Maybe I won't come back! If you hear alot of screaming and fireworks then you'll know it's my DH flipping out!!!!!!!!!!! |

You go girl, every once in awhile we need to put ourselves first. Sounds like your getting that done. So happy for you and you sound as if it really has made you happy also. Keep it up girlfriend, would love to see pic when you get it all together. Enjoy Life!!!

I didn't mention in my original post that my youngest child is leaving the nest next month and going off to college....NO more Halloween Costumes or PTO Meetings and trays of cookies, Band Boosters and Drama Clubs, No Fundraisers or Car Washes...all that stuff....If I had a dollar for every hour I did volunteer work (over the past 25 years) for my three kids, I'd be a millionaire! Don't get me wrong, I LOVED every minute of it and would do it all again...but it's time for someone else to do all the work now. AND, Monday night at 9:16 pm, I became a grandma for the third time...little Cade Michael is his name....can't wait to spoil the crap out of him..... Thanks for all the well wishes and nice comments to my post. Debbie

Debbie - does it matter if it is a mid-life crisis? if it makes you happy and feel good then go for it.
