Hi Kathy! I'm new here too but so far I love it. It fits into my life quite well at the moment and the women seem so wonderful! I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes to do a little construction!

Welcome, Kathy, from Dianne in the Hudson Valley in NY. One of my favorite authors, who wrote the book that set me on the farmgirl path many years before I knew about MJF, is Sue Hubbell of A Country Year: Living the Questions. She wrote about retiring to and living in the Missouri Ozarks. It sounds heavenly. Dianne

Me again...Want to hear something funny? I just read the back of the Sue Hubbell book while waiting for my reply to post and read that she was a 50 year old retired, divorced librarian when she wrote A Country Year. I think I read the book in my 20s because I remember thinking she was old! Well, I'm not retired or divorced, but I turned 50 this year and, gee, I'm not old! LOL...Dianne

30 years ago when my husband and I bought our piece of land in Alaska, we were in the country. Has that changed. But it still is a great place to be 9 months of winter not with standing. We are having a very rainy summer this year and that is effecting the community garden adversely. Lots of stuff just not making it. A lot of us who have been here for years are really truly farm girls. Make it, make do, do without.
