I was talking to my DIL yesterday and asked her what she was feeding my granddaughter. The following is how the convo went...
Me: How is Little Bits? What's she up to??
DIL: She's right here, getting ready to eat.
Me: What's for lunch??
DIL: Hotdogs and goldfish.
Me? Er...goldfish?
DIL: Yeah, she likes them.
Me: (thinking: what you buy them out of the aquarium or maybe already frozen into fillets?) Really....
DIL: (noticing something is 'wrong') Why? She likes them.
Me: Goldfish.
DIL: Yeah, they're good.
Me: Uh-huh. I mean, do you micro them or in the oven or what?
DIL: (thinking she has a real lulu for a MIL) What?? Um...
Me: The goldfish...do you bake or fry them??
DIL: Oh!! No!! Goldfish crackers!! Crackers!! (Now she knows I'm a whackjob)
Me: Oh, good grief! I had forgotten all about them and could only think of the swimmy creatures!
Needless to say, we're still laughing about this today. Sometimes my ADD just levels up one and I don't get what someone is talking about. This was one of those times!!
