Does anyone have any experience growing pumpkins? I started some plants from seed and they look great. Problem is I really didnt have anywhere to plant them since I know that they take up alot of room. Si what I did today is dug out a small area right on my front lawn which gets full sun.. and planted 4 plants. I am hoping that they will "take off" and just crawl right across the grass (maybe even make it so that we dont have to mow!) HA..
Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts???
Happy Planting..

Sounds good to me I plant them in every other row of my corn and have plenty for canning.

I put mine inbetween garden rows. They crawl around the other plants and love the space. I'm puttin them in my corn rows this year to fight the coons off.

My only experience with pumpkins was in a greenhouse in Scotland. I planted them and then we found we had to come to the states that summer. We were gone for six weeks and I asked a friend to water them for me a couple of times a week. I didn't tell her she had to but them back etc. When we got back our green house was so full of pumpkin vines that she was just standing at the door throwing buckets of water at the plants. She couldn't even get in the door. It was pretty hysterical. I never did pumpkins again.

Last year I grew pumpkins and squash with a cool method that I will like to share. It works with anything that requires a mound-cucumbers,squash,pumpkins, etc...I build a mound of compost and in the middle I stick an empty plastic pot with drain holes in it. When I need to water it you just pour or hose some into the pot. These kind of plants need lots of water at the roots and this works really good! I saw it in some ag magazine last year and it worked really well. I just planted my melons, squash and pumpkins yesterday with this method.

Age only matters if you are wine or cheese.
