This evening while my DH took Truman our Jack Russell for a stroll along the beach he noticed something sparkling in the sand...We usually comb the beach after a storm as the waves bring up a lot of sea glass where we walk---there used to be many breweries along the lake a long time ago-- long since burned down or torn down... and before any kind of ecological guidelines were set in place the workers used to shove broken bottles right out into the water hence the sea glass! Anyway--- He found a very thick ring with five small diamonds placed diagonally. I think it might have belonged to a man as it has a masculine cut too it.

I popped the ring into my ultrasound jewelry cleaner and it is GORGEOUS!

The ring must have been in the sand for a very long time as the band is polished to an almost a pewter like finish and the engraving inside the ring has virtually disappeared. The design looks turn of the century.

It's just like my DH to come across something like this in the sand and what a nice little treasure.

We will place an ad in the paper and see it someone can identify and claim it.

I wonder what the history is behind this ring?

So cool!!! I want to come visit you and comb the beach in the morning. It sounds beautiful!

And PS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your dog's name LOL! ;) Funny thing is, our son, Truman, was born here in the house we currently live in last July. We had just moved in at the beginning of July and he was born at the end. When he was just a few days old, the owner's wife came over with her daughter to retrieve mail that didn't forward and she was so excited to see the new baby. She asked his name and when I told her she shot a quick, wide-eyed glance at her daughter, followed by a look of, "don't you dare say a thing". LOL. I didn't know what that was all about until one of the pastor's that my husband works at the church with, who is also friends with the owners of the house told us that when they heard what we named him they were astounded, because that was the name of their pet hamster that had escaped his cage several weeks before they moved out and was still living in the walls of the house! We had no idea that there was a hamster in our walls LOL! I still think I hear him sometimes and I am convinced that he was there peeping his head out of the air vent in the bathroom when Truman was born in the tub going, "name him Truman, name him Truman!" hehehe....

Hi Melody,

What a neat story! Where are you? I am sorry to say I don't know the history of Hiawatha. Walking on the beach after a storm sounds so peaceful and beautiful.

Siobhan....I laughed and laughed at your Truman story---"Name him Truman, name him Truman!" Very funny...So much for subliminal information huh?

I am in the Great North Woods of Michigan--the Upper Peninsula just blocks away from the shores of the Bay of Green Bay.

It is lovely here with the wind and the water and the lakes but we also have very long and sometimes brutal winters!

Spring has been a long time in coming and we are just getting daffodils, and hyacinths-my apple trees are still just barely budding and the danger of frost is still lurking---Sigh! Sometimes, I dream of hopping a bus and heading down south to Paradise Plantation!

Melody, I just love sea glass and the ring, what a bonus! Where do you live? The land of Hiawatha sounds like Wisconsin to me.

The sea glass is always exciting to find especially the pink glass and the blue and the green!

How neat Melody, a treasure indeed! I miss walking along the beach. Our family used to vacation in Maine and every morning I would walk the beach, loved it!

Siobhan, how funny :)

How cool that all sounds. I would love to visit my husband's family property in the UP (Newberry) but it hasn't worked out. How lucky for you and how gracious that you are putting an ad in the paper.

It's all good!

Sharon,

When I was a little girl we were stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, ME...I went back about 25 years ago and vacationed in Camden---Loved every minute of it!
