It depends on what you're using it for and what you mix it with. I only mix it with water. I know if you mix it with some things it will explode!
I use it on whites (laundry) and for some other things.
Some people search for happiness; others create it.

I put a little clorox in with my whites. It helps with keeping them white but also disinfects them. I also use it once in a while for bleaching my sink mats and kitchen sink. I know that it is not that great but I just love the smell -- makes me think clean. I've tried using the oxygen bleach but it just does not work as well.

Bleach is produced by a chemical reaction that combines sodium hydroxide, water and chlorine —chlorine bleach. The chlorine in bleach is chemically bonded, but even under the most stringent quality control, the first stage of bleach production, when the chlorine gas is produced, results in the creation of a toxic byproduct known as dioxin. One of a family of organochlorines, dioxin has been identified as a carcinogen and has been linked to genetic changes and birth defects.
Hydrogen peroxide is a good substitute for bleach for whitening but the quantities needed for disinfection of laundry would cause chemical burns to the user. |

clorox is never safe but its a hard habit to break. There ARE alternitives and once you get used to them, you realize you can live w/out it. MJ mags & books are loaded w/ places to get alternitives. Let me or anyone here know if you need the sites, I'll post them.

I wanted to bring this up again, as I am having trouble "breaking the bleach habit" I grew up believing that the smell of Clorox is the smell of clean.... However, lately I seem to be reacting to everything! The smell of bleach hurts my nose and eyes and makes my throat burn...if I use certain soaps or shampoo I get hives and itchy rashes.... Does clorox bother anyone else? Should I just throw out all of the chemicals I react to? Any help would be great. Thanks Kate |

I STILL use clorox too, its hard to break the habit. But I only use it for whites when washing, and I dont breath the flumes, just a quick pour into the washer. I havent found anything that works as well for whites |

I use Oxyclean and love it. I can't use clorox because of our septic system. So what does everyone think of oxyclean. It get my white cleaner than anything else I have ever used.

Have not used oxyclean, but have thought about it. Maybe I will have to try it. Isnt it soap though? or does it have whiteners in it? thanks |

Shirley, I think oxyclean is hydrogen peroxide base, great whiteners. My friend has beautiful white and pastel lace sheets and I couldn’t believe how bright they were so clean and beautiful. She told me about oxyclean and I never went back to another whitener. I have yet to try the carpet cleaner, but I will soon.
