I've been missing my purse since Tuesday morning...with the onset of Springtime allergies, I've been a little bit of an airhead this week, so it didn't even occur to me until a full 12 hours later that it was missing...and then I even forgot about it yesterday and even today (outta sight, outta mind), until Justin just called and said, "Stop by the Hebron Remke's (a grocery) on the way home...they have your purse!" Oh YEAH!!! We WERE there Monday night!!! Apparently, I left it in the cart because it was pouring down rain and I was trying to get Violet in the carseat and well, I've been pretty dense this week with my head all stuffed up. I just totally spaced!
It's taken them so long to track me down because there was nothing in the bag that had a phone number or identified me because I had my drivers license and check card in my change-purse, with me at home...I have no idea how they found our home number, but I am grateful.

I know, Janice, right? Apparently, she finally thought to check their "good customer card" to see if I was in the system. So, she found our phone number that way!
Annika, I KNOW you've had the allergy problem this week, too...I guess I forget how goofy they can make me! Thanks for commiserating, I don't feel so bad ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)

It's so nice to hear these stories of human decency and good samaritanism. I get really weighed down by all the negative stories you hear in the news, on tv shows, etc. to the point where I don't even want to answer the door when the doorbell rings. It's a wonderful reminder that there are honest and caring folks out there.

Well, there are good people out there. I'm so glad you got it back. And good for you to have your important things in a separate place. I try to keep my keys and cell phone in my pockets so if something happened I could call for help. But so far so good.
And I know what ya mean about the allergy mess. It's getting to me, too. If my head weren't attached to my shoulders I'd forget where I put it, too.

I remember finding a purse in a rest stop on the way home from Kansas once. I checked out the gal's cell phone and sure enough "MOM" was in the system so I called her mom. Her mom tracked them down and they were about 70 miles ahead of us, so they just pulled over and met us at a Braum's on the way. I was so glad to be able to get it back to her intact. It was really odd, because I was sitting there doing my thing and looked up and there it was on the toilet paper holder. Three other ladies were in there and nobody wanted to deal with it. I had heard that most people put mom in their cell phones and that's how you can find them. I usually lock my purse in the car when at a rest stop and take turns w/DH watching the car. She was so happy to get everything back. She just knew that stuff had been stolen.
I am so glad an honest somebody found your purse, too, and was able to track you down and give you back everything. Someone stole my purse a few years ago, but luckily I had my wallet with all of my important stuff with me. The thing is, the purse was my mom's and she had just died, so it broke my heart. We never did find it.

That's wonderful Jonni! I love hearing stories like this! BTW, did you know that the word Hebron is derived from the Hebrew word 'friend'? I though that was fitting :)

It is good news, Lainey...and I think we could all use a dose of the positive! Sharon, that's a very fitting fact for this story. Thank you very much for sharing that, and brightening my day even more ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)
I tell you--it made me pass it on, too. When I was eating lunch at a local restaurant, I noted an older woman who came in after me and sat, alone, sort of staring into space. When I left, she was right behind me paying. I noted, walking out side, that it was pouring down rain, so I waited for her and took my umbrella out of my bag and offered to walk with her. She actually smiled ![](icons/icon_smile_blush.gif)

Isn't it a treat when things like this happen? It renews my faith in humanity...having lived most of my life in rural Maine I am used to all the little bits of people's innate goodness. I always wave at the people walking or horseback riding on my road. If a car is stopped I always ask if they need help. Recently I slid my car off the parking lot at my doctor's office and landed in a big ditch. Two guys in a pickup drove by, turned around and hauled my car out for me. I use a cane a lot because of my wonky knees and I am always amazed with the kindness I find on my errands, people holding the door open for me, offering to help put things in the car. The other day a car was stopped at the driveway that leads up to my hayfield. I stopped and asked if they needed help, it was so funny, it was a couple of old guys who started flirting with me. Very funny.

It's true, Karin...I really do miss that aspect so often where we live. It's so fleeting here...we're a suburb of a larger city, and it's very transient it seems. When I was little, the road we lived on was a rural route (1977), now it's a 3 lane highway connecting 3 counties. It can be frustrating, so when something nice happens, I feel like I should crow about it, and continue it on.
How funny about the two old guys flirting...they know a good thing when they see it!!!!

Janice, I hope your day has gotten better...it must be somewhat strange, knowing that in a few days, you won't be coming back to your workplace. I hope you're not too stressed (but then, that would be unlikely, given all you have to do before leaving!). Deep breaths (and maybe a thrifting jaunt on your lunch-hour!!!)

That's fantastic news! I found a checkbook on the counter of a banks outside ATM years back. Took it home and mailed it to the owner. Didn't use my name & addy as the return address as I had no idea if anything was missing from it & didn't want to be held to blame if it was. I'm sure the owner was pleased to have it back.
