I am having a hysterectomy on Tues. I have been sick for over 14 months. Recently, I ended up in the ER with what they thought was a blocked bowel and wanted me to see a general surgeon. I went to him and he said "I am not concerned about your bowels, but you need your uterus and ovaries out. They are very enlarged and more than likely the root of your problem". I am scared to death. I have not had surgery for 31 years. I am smack dab in the middle of menopause and very hormonal. I hope they have a plan to level me out after the surgery. I am counting on the power of prayer to pull me through this ordeal and begin the journey of healing.

Kem, I am sending good thoughts and prayers your way. I hope they are able to get the hormones all fixed too. I can understand being so scared. How long will you have to be in the hospital?

Thanks for all the prayers. I am soooo ready to have this over. My abdomen has to feel better after this is over. I think I will be in the hospital for about 1-2 days and then I am going home with my daughter for a couple of days to recoup. I think my hubby is relieved, he has nurtured me for over a year now and very weary of the whole thing. He has been so patient through this whole thing. So grateful to have him. Nothing but kindness. They tell me within a week I should feel better and if everything goes as planned in two weeks I will be functioning well. Again, thanks for the prayers.

I'll keep you in my prayers. I'm sure they'll have a way to level you out. I've had several friends and family members who had hysterectomies before they hit menopause and they were pleased with the after care and the help with the hormonal problems. I am a big fan of bioidentical hormone treatment, myself.

Had my hysterectomy in 2004. I hope you have as funny and as comfortable recovery as I did. The pain I had immediately after the surgery was well taken care of. When I returned home the only real difficulty I had was getting out of bed by myself, but I managed. It truly only seemed to hurt when I knew I was overdoing it. When I followed orders I was very comfortable. This is not a "walk in the park" certainly but please don't fear it too much. You will feel better. I was only on hormone patches for three months then went cold turkey. I have no hot flashes or night sweats. I wish the same for you. The funny thing that happened to me was on day four after the surgery. The staples that they closed my stomach up with were supposed to be removed the next day. The edge of one of the staples caught on my underpants and got so stuck, I had to go the surgeons office with my underpants stuck to my stomach. He had to cut the underpants off me and removed the staples at the same time. I never laughed so hard in my life. Please keep in touch with us and God bless.

Kem, your situation sounds just like mine did when I had to have a hysterectomy. It is unnerving, but oh I felt soooo much better afterwards, well at least after I recovered. I got so use to feeling lousy all the time, I didn't realize how lousy I really felt. Don't be fearful, all will be well. You have a lot of prayers going up on your behalf! Blessings!!!

For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

Thanks for all of the prayers. I know they helped. I had surgery Tues at 2:00 p.m. and released about 1:00 on Wed afternoon. They try to have you leave before the 24 hours are up. I felt sore, but good. I already have lost the feeling of having the flu in my head all the time. I don't know how that tied in, but did. I am praying that the rest will fall in place in the next couple of weeks. I had the new Divinci Hysteretomy and it was great. It supposedly cuts recovery time in half or sooner. I only have one incision that is 1 /2" and three that are about 3/8". So thankful I found this doctor. Had to drive 3 1/2 hours to have the surgery, but worth it. Would go there again.
Glad it is over. Now praying the bowels start working. Isn't it great what a person goes through to get where we are going? haha

So glad your feeling better. I wish they had done the "DaVinci" method on me. I must have had the "Titanic" method where they cut you stem to stern.
