In the spirit of St. Paddy's Day on Wednesday, I thought I would ask everyone what their favorite Irish/Celtic songs are?
My absolute favorite since I was a wee lassie has always been
The Unicorn by The Irish Rovers- never get tired of that!!
I'll list more in the next couple of days, but I want to hear all yours, and..... how you will celebrate on Wednesday, if you do!!

They may not all be traditional Irish songs, but Tim O'Brien has some very nice ballads that he sings :} It's hard for me to feel kindly toward any one Irish song; I'm surrounded by people of Italian heritage, so I tend to hear the same two or three Irish songs every St. Patrick's Day haha :}

My favorite Irish song is "An Fharraige". I don't understand the words but it is a beautiful, haunting melody. I like anything sung by Maire Brennan. On St. Patrick's Day, I feel an odd longing to have an Irish setter. I'd like to try a green beer but nobody has ever offered me one. Which is probably just as well.

I've had the opportunity to see Ronan Tynan in concert a couple of times, and I love all his music. I think a couple of my favorites are The Land I Loved So Well and Fields of Athenry. I'm only a wee part Irish, but love anything that has to do with Ireland!

Kylie... My grandparents are Irish and Italian! LOL! (Grandpa is Irish and Grandma is the Italian) It gets interesting around them two! I have been listening to my CD that my Mom got for me from Ireland.. it is a collection of Irish Pub songs... I love it!!!
I throw the corned beef, potatoes and the cabbage into my crockpot to enjoy that yearly feast!

I have about 300 Irish/Celtic cd's and I can't pick my favorite. I play them all year round. My daughter was here last week so I made my traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage meal with baby carrots and Irish soda bread a little early. Wednesday I will be making Bangers and Mash for my DH. I am one Irish girl that celebrates my heritage all year round, my dear departed dad instilled it in me when I was young. I used to love the song Danny Boy until I had it sung at my Father's funeral, now I have a hard time listening to it without tearing up.

I love Celtic music-traditional and modern, it would be hard to pick just a few. But Danny Boy would be one of my favs too.

Wow, I have a lot. I'll have to take a few moments to list them...when I met my husband, he was playing in a raucous Irish house band (think the Pogues meets traditional celtic music) in a very local, very traditional Irish pub (when the IRA "bigwhigs" came to the US, the would meet upstairs on the 2nd level when passing through town)...Every Thursday night you could find Jus and the band bringing down the house (or was that the Guinness/Baileys Irish Car-bombs????)
Anyhoo...
He Moved Through the Fair (sung a capella at during our wedding)
The Rocky Road to Dublin (SO much to fun to dance to!)
The Foggy Dew (c'mon, the Easter Rebellion? HAS to be a fave!)

Forgot to add that we will be spending the afternoon in the "back room" at Crowley's Irish Pub in Mt. Adams, where 5 generations of (male) Lynch's have their baby pictures on the wall from the annual picnic (including my husband, the last generation). It is the quintessential "working class" pub for the Irish on "the Hill" as Mt. Adams is called. The Lynch clan will be having an informal family gathering, as per usual, on St. Patricks Day

I came in to the office early today (6:45) to get some work done without the interruption of the phones, and from the bus stop, I pass by Molly Malone's, the local Irish Pub....the lights were all on, there were folks already at tables and standing around with pints in hand for the "Kegs and Eggs" event. Made my tummy do a little lilt (NOTHING sounds good at that early in the a.m, especially Guinness!), but I had to laugh. I love this day!

I will admit that I am more Scottish than Irish, but there is definitely some Irish on my mom's side....
I always do Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patty's Day, but this year will be different. My youngest daughter flew up from Alabama last night, and because of the grandchildren's church activities tonight, all us girls will be going out to eat in a local small restaurant. Maybe they will serve corned beef! I'll have to have my green beer before we go... actually everyone is coming to my house this afternoon, including my son-in-law who was born in Ireland to Irish parents, dh has been instructed to go get the Guiness this morning. :)
My big tradition today will be to plant my peas!
I am going to enjoy listening to the cd that Diane sent me! It's called Irish Dreams II.
