I broke my foot. I don't know how. The corner of one of the bones is broken off. It was hurting and not getting better so I finally went to the doctor to have it x-rayed. I've been wearing a "soft cast" covered by a big heavy boot now for about 4 weeks - I go in once a week and he takes it off and puts a new one on. He says it keeps reducing the swelling and allows the bone to grow back together. Next week I get to go to a different kind of splint - I can wear my normal shoe again! Hurray!

Anyway I've been taking prescription Celebrex for the pain. I find if it don't take it I experience achiness in the foot that keeps me awake at night, and hurts my concentration during the day. I remembered seeing something about Celebrex in the news so googled and found that there is an increased risk of cardiovascular events with Celebrex, as well as all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (except aspirin)....I've also noticed that recently my veins in my arms have become slightly more prominent (but maybe it's just seasonal, or my imagination...)

I'm not supposed to take aspirin because of having bariatric surgery a few years ago (but probably shouldn't be taking Celebrex for that reason, either.) I remember reading something about turmeric being beneficial for arthritis sufferers (like Celebrex is supposed to be for) I wonder if it is pain-relieving or just swelling???

Or should I just trust the doctor knows what he is doing, continue with the Celebrex as prescribed, and take my chances??/

I don't know anything about Turmeric but i have to say don't always just trust what the docter says. They are human to. Good luck in you healing process.

Brenda,
I'm one of those folks who almost never takes medicine and, in the rare event I do, I can't remember the names or anything, so I'm obviously no help. But I did want to tell you I'm sorry to hear about the break and your being in pain. I hope you're able to get rest and stay off the foot as much as possible, and that the break heals quickly.

Ouch, Brenda! I hope you're healing up quickly!!! I was thinking - if you're worried about some of the medications you're taking, you may want to get a second opinion. Maybe you could even call the "pain management" area of the closest hospital to see if there's a nurse/doctor available for a consultation. I'm not sure, but it might help ease your mind, as well as ease your pain!

I'm glad you're on the tail-end of the cast/splint thing. Those can really be a nuisance.

XOXO, Libbie

Thanks for all the good wishes, girls! It's really great being part of a caring ommunity even if it is a virtual one!

Good idea about the hospital, Libbie. I hadn't thought of that.
