Hi Farmgirls, I was wondering where you can get goat pulling strings? I looked at the farm store and they don't have them. Hugs, Channah

I think Hoegger's Goat Supply has some, too.

Just make sure you know how to use them correctly, or you will do damage to the kids.

Hand pulling is safer, if you need to pull at all, but it only works if the kid is out far enough to have something to grasp, and you have to make sure either way that the nose is pointed down, or the head can get twisted back, and you'll get in big trouble. Research kidding problems online, and you should be able to find something with step by step photos, then print them out and put in a notebook to keep in your goat barn, that is if you do not have anyone with experience close by if you need help. Good luck.

Channah, I hope you never have to pull a kid. I am always a nervous wreck at kidding time. But so far I have only had to be there to calm them down and talk to them. I did have to help one doe a few years ago. Just because she was so tired and I was too. She had a huge buckling. All was ok though. I always worry way too much for my own good. I keep my cell phone handy with a vet's number at the ready just in case, though.
How much longer does she have? Mine have maybe 6-8 weeks now. I need to go ahead and give them CDT shots in the next week or so. I started giving them grain with sunflower seeds again. And extra hay. They are big fat goatie girls right now. I can't imagine how they'll look in a month. My Sadie Mae is not as big as last year. I am really not so sure she's pregnant. She's my jumper so she could have avoided the bucks by just leaving. We'll see soon.
Kris

oh gosh Kris it could be any day now for all I know. I really have no idea what day she got pregnant on. But I think she will kid the last week in February. But you never know... Wish me luck as it is my first time and I will be doing it by myself. Hugs, Channah
