I have never heard of this either! With today's super sticky stamps I am not sure if I could peel them off and see the message?

On a stamp-related note, my grandmother always put the stamp on upside down when she mailed letters to family. She said it meant "I love you!"

Yes, lol I did it when I was little and when I send a letter to my grandparents, just for fun. Can't remember whether they ever found out though lol. I guess I did mention it in the letter but... ;)

No, I never have. Do you know the reasoning or origin behind that?

oh my I guess I am old fashioned. I'm not really sure what the meaning behind it is. I thought maybe people did it during the war but am not sure. Me and my friend used to do it when we wanted to tell each other serects and didn't want our sister to who happened to be reading over our shoulders. lol. Today with those stamps it is hard to see the message but it is fun!! You can always steam the stamp off and read it that way. Maybe I will have to send you each a letter and see how it works?? I would do it! :)

Hugs,
Channah

Oh boy...now you've done it! I am going to have to check all incoming mail now just to see!

What a neat idea! I am going to remember to do that the next time I post a letter to my pen pal in LA!

This is a short part (children's version) of the book The Secret Room (movie title The Hiding Place) by Corrie ten Boom. Here she wrote about the message underneath the stamp.

http://www.soon.org.uk/true_stories/holocaust.htm

One day when Corrie was a little better, a warder threw a parcel into her cell. She was thrilled to find that it contained some biscuits, a bright-red towel and a needle and thread. It had come from her married sister Nollie, who lived in Haarlem.
She noticed there was something odd about the address and the stamp. It was all crooked. Suddenly she had an idea, and peeled off the stamp. There was some writing underneath: "All the watches left in the cupboard are safe." This meant that all the Jews hiding in the ten Boom home had escaped. That was wonderful news.

I do the upside-down stamp too. When Mama and Daddy were dating and then first married and Daddy was in the Korean War she did this and said it was a Big thing at that time. I guess everybody did it, just like the S.W.A.K. thing after sealing the envelope! It's all very sweet really!
