i just sent a bunch of photos of cabin creek farm to my 'kentucky rambler' gurlfrenz ... with descriptions of when art and hannah lived here compared to how it looks today .. tooo many photos to post here .. but if wanna' see 'em .. just e-mail me! xo, frannie

****************

gurlie-gurlz ... brad simmons sent these to me today ... i had most of them but they got
all frizz-up when my outlook express locked up a few months ago.

these are when art and hannah stearns lived here
LOVE the SIMPLICITY of their decorating .. and lordy knows .. I'VE TRIED!!!
but just the mere thought of the word "SIMPLIFY" .. sends me into a shopping frenzy!

I told Hannah today that she and Art would have a 'fit and fall in it' .. if she were to see
how cluttered i have the cabins!
Lordy .. i do luvs 'stuff'!!!!

Am trying desperately to give up for adoption my HUMONGOUS 'prissy' antiques.
They are soooooooo darn dear .. it is hard to do so .. BUT .. i am DETERMINED ..
soooooo .. visit Glovers' Station Antiques Mall
or come visit the farm with a u-haul .. and take 'em home with you!

i swear .. i should walk around with my camera and take photos of these same views
as they are today!!! Maybe after i get all the 'dust bunnies' swept up .. i might just do that!

this is the hallway (part of the addition between the two cabins)
i love that the log walls were left exposed inside the house!
at the end of the hallway .. it is 'open' to our bedroom
... no secrets in there!!!
there is a doorway on the right ... just before the pumkin floor step-down .. that leads
to a quaint little laundry room (overflowing with vintage victorian clothing)
the laundry room hallway leads into our 'necessary' (privy!) which in turn
has a door that goes into our bedroom.

Have a story about that cute shabby chic step-back cupboard.
When i first VISITED here to see Cabin Creek .. i stopped at Little Mac's Antique Shoppe
in Hodgenville
... and oh lordy me oh my! that woman has LOVELY PRIMITIVE antiques! DO NOT MISS
HER SHOPPE if you are ever in this area!! Well, this little cupboard was there.
Seems Lexie .. who lived here for a year after Art and Hannah .. HAD TO HAVE THIS .. but
then turned around and sold it! I reeeeeeeeeely wanted to have it .. but did not know FOR CERTAIN
that we would be getting Cabin Creek on that first visit .. Hank had to retire, we had to sell our home .. I
had to convince Hank that Kentucky was truly heaven on earth in this chapter of our book of life!
By the time we did buy Cabin Creek .. it was long gone!

***********

KITCHEN .. this is in the addition .. i love the high ceilings
and olde beams! i also love that great black stove .. has an oven and a
'warming oven' too! the mustard door to the left leads into the
'pantry' (provisions room). There are no 'cupboards'
(OH YEAHHH!) .. so all our foodstuffs go in this little room.
The doorway to the right leads into the upper cabin.
The door to the far left leads to the back of the house. Kathy and Eddy Anthony
(and sons) ... (SugarBucket) are putting a most magnificent huge back porch here .. using log
posts .. red tin ceiling and probably a very dark green floor .. they are going to
paint the outside of the addition 'barn red' (front and back of the house).

**************

this is one of the 'corners in the kitchen'
my oh mys .. look at those pies

ohhhhh .. and i gotta' tell you sumpthin'
i stopped by hannah's shoppe in town today .. to see
if she had another yummy olde table for another porch
we are having built on the lower cabin .. and she is now
baking the YUMMIEST COOKIES that ever did cross your lips!
i'm hopin' she's gonna' do scones too .. i'm gonna' stop there everytime
i am in town to see 'what's bakin'!

aren't all these primitive antiques to die for!!!!

***************

this i our teensy little bathroom .. hank wanted to enlarge it ..
but i reeeeeeely thought that would take away from the
shape of the home .. and afterall .. there are only a coupla'
things that you dooooooo in a bathroom! And since we
built the outdoor-shower .. he is happy!
YEP! i even have this room cluttered!

********

a wall beside the fireplace .. i have a pie safe and a ka-billion
primitive doo-dahs here!
aren't their BOWLS wonderful!!!!

*******

Hannah painted the crows and sunflowers on the door
in the lower cabin! sooooo coooool!!!

**************

the fireplace in the upper cabin.
we love how they boldly white-washed the walls
and painted the floors bright yellow!
really lightens what would have been a very dark room ..
we have sofa's and chairs in this room
(the straight-back hard kind that hank doesn't like to sit in!)
(but oh so lovely!)
i tell him this is the 'visiting room' where you 'set a spell'.

**************

Cabin Creek at dusk .. that wonderful olde tree on the left
died and had to be cut down!

********************

this is the side of the lower cabin .. LOVE the flag they
painted on the side .. we had the porch made a little larger.
That yummy bittersweet doesn't grow here now .. nor is that little
picket fence there .. but there is a HUGE bittersweet BUSH
there. Doesn't grow many berries though .. someone told me
you have to have a male and female bush for that to happen ..
i'm not sure how to tell the 'sex' of the thing .. sooo .. i'll get a bunch more
of them and see if they make baby berries!

*************

isn't this a sweeet holiday photo .. looks like they had a 'gate'
that wasn't here when we moved in. would be lovely to put another one there!

******************

Another view of the kitchen .. with the most magnificent counter
from an olde kentucky general store! Those lovely hanging cupboards
are still here and i have them fulla' wunnerfuls!
Simple cranberry strings across the windows ... lordy!
ya' oughta' see 'em now!!!

**************

Isn't this serene and truly 'heaven on earth'!!!!
The 'farm' is tucked down in a little valley .. with no other homes in view.
And the little road that leads to it literally ENDS right here in front of the cabins ..
beyond that is a magnificent forest of acres and acres and acres of land!
(Hank runs 5 miles a day through the forest with our dawgs, Cabin and Creek)
He usually brings me back some wild flowers from each day's run.

******************

This is what i call 'the summer kitchen'.
It's a little room that is attached to the upper cabin.
It's kinda' my 'creative room' right now .. and i do keep some
treasures in here that are available for adoption when friends stop by.
Isn't that a great little 'potting shelf'. I love decorating it each season.
All the windowboxes are still here too and i fill them full of growies.
Friend, Twigs, sent me pictures of the most incredible 'log' windowboxes ..
might try to have honey hunk make me some of those!
And if that fails .. i'll call on my 'handy-gurl' .. Kathy Sugarbucket!!!

*********

This is the barn. Art used it as his workshop for the
wonderful signs, bowls and other woodenware he and Hannah made.
We had the porch roof that was on the lower cabin put over
the doorway. oh my goodness .. i just realized .. the door is
painted RED. It was black when we moved here .. i like this door a lot!
Might try to find an olde barn door or have Kathy make me one.
This FANTASTIC wooden fence isn't here anymore either. I guess
WOOD just goes back to nature after awhile .. good news though is
that it can always be built again! I do want more picket and log fences!!

**********************

Side of the barn .. that wonderful
CABIN CREEK FARM sign is still here!
AND .. so is that olde tractor seat!

******************************

we've had all the RED re-painted since moving here.
That is the fence that is gone .. might put it back!
When we moved here there was a gravel driveway where
the wheelbarrow is .. we've turned that back to grass ..
well .. it's trying to .. had a six foot trench dug and water=pipes
laid for another water source for a back garden .. and the grass
is coming in slowly. Hank said when he gets back .. he's going
to have this part of the yard re-seeded.

********************

This is the stairway that leads upstairs to the 'stranger room'
i adore the olde windy stairs in these cabins .. and i LOVE
that the dogs can't maneuver them .. which keeps them downstairs!!

********************

The STRANGER ROOM
I love this room!!! so cozy! this is where our guests stay.
I've added a 'hired man's bed' (that Kathy Sugarbucket found for me!) .. cuz' i almost always have
more than two guests at a time. Still have that cute little
bed too .. teddy bears sleep there now.
Art made these beds from wood out of the forest!

********************

When i first saw this picture .. i walked around forever .. .looking for this room!!!
i could tell it was INSIDE .. cuz' of the curtains ... FINALLY" .. i realized that the barn red
is now painted white .. it's the 'summer kitchen' .. I love both looks!
I still don't know just what to do with this room. I'm thinking a little 'sitting room' for
guests .. and my 'sewing room' .. might put a little TV in here in a cabinet .. and my sewing machine!
It's not done as primitive as i want it to eventually be .. YET!

We are getting two big honkin' flat screen TV's when hank gets home from mt. everest.
One is for the 'lower cabin' for his sports and news programs.

One is for me and my movies and 'silly sitcoms'.
I'm thinking of putting the BIG'GUN in the Stranger Room .. but hafta' figure out how to HIDE it!!!

**********

well, chilluns .. hope you have enjoyed the tour of Cabin Creek Farm!!
