I want to get some mild goats and I fopund someone in my area with them. Now I just have to save up the money!

I would like to have a chicken tractor small enough to go between my veg. rows in the garden.
I need to budget in fencing so I can have animals plus add stalls in the barn for horses.
Hoping this year is a little drier so I can raise more garden veggies. I need to be more self-sufficient in so many ways & by trying to add facilities for rv & horse campers. sigh.....the list could go on & on but if I can only do one thing each year I will be going foward with my dream! I want to learn to give my Lord & Savior more praise and honor .

My goal this year is to keep a journal of planting, harvesting and processing.I think I will enjoy looking back in later years. There are so many things I forget these days!

This is very inspiring and motivating girls! I just love seeing everyone's goals.
Mine include:
~Learning to sew :)
~Soapmaking
~I want to raise some livestock but depending on time will depend what we raise. I would love chickens for eggs, sheep and maybe a couple of cows. We'll see :)
~Getting a handle on the garden. I'm pretty new and I need to figure out what the best producers are, how much I need to plant and what I will use the most of and then plant something for fun :)

I want to grow veggies with heirloom seeds.
Build a simple but safe coop so we can raise chickens.
Help the kids save money for an Angora rabbit & then I need to learn how to knit....or is it crochet? I honestly don't know the difference! But I know I can use the rabbits hair.
I want to be taught how to use my Grandmother's Singer Treadle. It's sitting there waiting for me.

My Farmgoal for 2010 was originally to go "greener" too but then I added to that since this will be my first year out of the city. So
I hope to also have my first garden this year! Organic of course!

First of all, I want to work on getting healthier. Change my eating patterns and hopefully get my back surgery so I'll be better able to do the things I love doing. I've always been so very busy in my church and lately I have had to step back. I love working at all the activities and leading bible studies. Also, I'd like to better understand how to earn badges and work on them. I really want to learn to tat. Since my husband has been laid off, I really want to get busy on my crafts and see if I can sell them and help out. And to just be grateful for each day of all the blessings that I have received. Such as this connection to all you wonderful ladies.

Keep homemaking foods to replace more harmful foods bought at the grocery store
become friends with my sewing machine; make curtains
help DH dig/build root cellar/storm shelter
expand our garden and do more canning; learn the art of dehydrating and root cellar storage
keep learning as much as i can about anything that interests me! keep up with my path to spirituality.
make some friends in the local area (every time i make a good friend, it seems they move away! :(
keep saving money, especially when it comes to "green" methods.... we've already saved money by shutting off the computer when not using it!
keep working at becoming a more loving, caring wife.
oh, my list is endless....

The list is never ending! The first thing I need to do is get my shears and hand clippers sharpened so I can shear the sheep in the next few weeks (oh my back is SCREAMING in protest already!!). The barn needs cleaning where the hay is stored. I need to shovel all the POOP out of the barn where the goats hang out. Build the new goat pen so I CAN shovel all the poop out of the barn where the goats hang out ... sigh.. those darn goats. I think they'll be the death of me!
Mostly we need to do fences, fences and MORE fences!!! My husband ripped them all out in the Fall and now it's time to put them back up again. Honestly, I don't make lists of things I need to do. I ALWAYS lose those lists and never get done what's on them ANYWAY. I just do what I can each day and plod my way through it. It'll most likely need to be done again TOMORROW anyway! But, ahh... such is the life of a Shepherdgirl!

My farmgoal for 2010 is to be 90% independent of grocery stores. I want to only rely on them for things like flour (which, I could make here, but, I think it's cost prohibitive for the amount we use) and staples like bags, oils, etc.
I'm contacting our dairy farmer down the road to see if he will sell me milk. I'm growing a much larger garden this year, and hope to preserve our years worth of vegetables and fruits. We have an orchard here on the farm, but, it's been quite overgrown (it's been there for about 100 years) and needs trimming, so, that's on the "to do" list as well.
Beyond that, I want to walk closer with my God, and start thinking about a family!
Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

My goal is to once again get up at 5 am EVERY morning to ride at least one horse (what's the point of feeding them to stand there??), and to stick with it.
My farm goals are to be successful with my first batch of meat birds (i can't wait to pick them up! soon...), and to have the garden planned out a wee bit better this spring. Not so much waisted space. And to finish crocheting my hubby's sweater. Oh, and to can as much as possible from the garden this year.

Share our farm and the many blessings God has given me with others.
Needed home repaires
Improve on my garden
Stay out of the grocery store more
Add heirloom seeds to my garden
Improve my very limited knowledge on cheesemaking with goats milk
Make some money from all my little hobbies
Love others more

my goal is to add new veggies to the garden this year see what happens
putting a new herb garden closer to the kitchen
but my real goal is to help those in need thru my garden
maybe ease the burden abit with free fresh veggie.

Keep paying down what's left of the mortgage ( not too much)
Meditate daily
Exercise daily,get back muscle mass (now that I'm a crone, start thinking about me more)
Build the bunkhouse
Finish the outdoor kitchen
Get even better at baking naturally leavened bread
Don't grow that many more veggie's than I can easily give away
Be tolerant with my newly retired husband
Same and loving too to my kids
Fencing in large horse pasture
Add more deer fencing
Maybe also chicken tractors built,we free range them but have to worry some about predators in the daytime. |

What a broad range of farmgoals, some of ours mirror some of yours and some of you brought a serious chuckle - Katie - "tolerant of the newly retired husband", lol! My gram was beside herself when my gramp retired, he drove everyone nuts and we frequently chased him out to his pighouse, thanks for sparking such a funny memory.
Like Megan (walkinwalkout) we have an overgrown orchard that needs attention, you can only tell it is there from the air. The plan is to fence it and put cows in it for a couple years, maybe goats, but I hate.hate.hate chasing goats, so we'll see. To the south of the old orchard there is around an acre of organic blueberries that we have been cleaning out for the past couple of years, they are becoming manageable and as long as we can get a brushog down the rows before late spring it should be all good.
The goat barn & chicken coop are going to need to be mucked out. I would love to turn an unused (but really rough)hard-to-get-to-field, into our own hayfield, I am tired of buying/hauling hay.
The garden could have less weeds, and I could preserve more, but I hope to just enjoy everyday as it comes a little bit more.
Any of you gals who want to learn to sew, feel free to ask me a question anytime. I'm not the best, but I've been doing it a long time and it is such an enjoyable part of my life that I would love to help you make it click and spread the addiction :D erm I mean art, lol!

I have a HUGE list of to-do's
I don't know where to start. Clean up and simplify my life!
Go as green as possible,build a new chicken coop, paint my house, work on the remodelling on the inside of the house, build raised beds and put in a good garden, learn canning and preserve the plums from our plum trees...goodness, I could go on and on.

I too need better canning skills. I enjoy reading all the goals we have set for this year & I myself have finally paid off the farm!!!wheee doggies!

My goals are simple:
1. To be more intentional -- ie when I think to myself "I should call ..." I go ahead and do it!
2. To have a veggie garden again
3. To exercise at least an hour every day by walking my darling lab puppies!
There, I've written it! Now it will happen!
I love lists! They make me feel like I have done SO much!

Grow more fruits and veggies if that's possible. Our garden is already pretty big but we are adding at least 2 more raised beds this year.
Clean the chicken coop for new chicks.
Finally get DH to put up a clothesline.
Keep up with the weeding in ALL of the flower beds and the garden.
Paint the fence.
Get the Community Gardens started now that we have final approval from the city.

My biggest farm goal for 2010 is to grow a greater % of our food here on our property. To that end we're putting in a bigger garden with 290 sq ft of raised beds. I can't wait to start planting!
