Brenda - it really is a wonderful place to visit. The day starts off with a bagpiper which I think is just the most wonderful thing! There are great classes being held during the weekend in alot of the refurbished out buildings. There are vendors as long as the day from antiques to jewlery, lots of small fiber farms with their wares, a lavendar farm, local bee-keeper. Oh, oh and one of my favorites...the button lady! There is also a rug weaver with practically her whole store there and the sheep farm store sets up a large tent outdoors as well...such lovely, lovely items (slippers, sweaters, mittens/hats, fleeces and LOTS of rovings and yarn).

Mr. Sheep Farm, while not at this 9/5 job, is a farmer/gardener and the whole of the farm is transformed with his plants (some of which are for sale), vines (hops and bitterweet) and lots of wonderful pumpkins (for sale). Oh, and there usually is a local apple orchard there as well selling cider, apples and last time apple cake. The farm has a grill station that sells tastey lunches (farm fresh sausage meals and veggie ones too) and there is also a tent to buy the farm fresh sausage.

This is really an event to put on your calendar. It has been in the past a very special weekend for me and when the weather is just right it is just a spectacular wonder to behold (if you like being outdoors and at a farm with sheep, dogs, alpacas, rabbits, llamas and a few people thrown in for good measure).

When I was involved with the festival alot of the people were local to the area around the farm and so you might meet a few neighbors. Yvonne, Mrs. Sheep Farm, is a treasure in the sheep/fiber world. She is from New Zealand and is a trained chef among other hats in her closet. If this (fiber) is your passion there could be no better person to meet. Just a side note - due to my schedule the past two years I have not been to the festival so some of the above may have changed as things like this do year to year but I am sure it is still fabulous! - Karen -

Raspberry Bee, I just realized how close we really are! Bruce Township is only a few miles from here, really. It sounds like a wonderful festival but September is a long way away. I am definitely a fiber person, I have a pickup at Zeilinger's in Frankenmuth to make soon from the 12 fleeces I got (for free!) on Craigslist - unfortunately, the processing was NOT FREE, but I don't have time to do it myself right now, I am anxiously awaiting the call that my yarn is ready for pickup.

I have had Angora rabbits in the past but currently no livestock - too much business and personal travel to be able to take care of them.

I look forward to meeting with local farmgirls. By April my project schedule at work should slow down some and hopefully I can take some time to explore the area.

I moved from the city, Tampa to the country, Mississippi. I went from suburban to rural in a very short time. At first I hated it, but now I can't imagine going back! Getting a new home is so exciting and has so much promise! Congratulations

It's all good!

Brenda - if you pick up your fleeces on a saturday and would like some company for lunch I would be glad to meet up with you. I live just south and west of Frankenmuth. Funny thing - I was at the mill a couple of weekends ago for new felting needles. You are in good company with Zeilinger's for sure!

Karen, what a nice offer! I doubt if it will be this Saturday or next, I will be traveling for work, but maybe in a couple of weeks! I'll email you when Zeilinger's calls me.

Karen, I got lost this morning looking for Henry Ford Urgent care facility at 38 mile road and Van Dyke (joke was on me, at 38 mile the sign says "Boardman Road", I kept going for a couple more miles before turning around) When I came back to Boardman Road again I noticed the sign pointing to Mt. Bruce so I joyfully sped down the road to ask the friendly people there for directions... What a nice place!

Sorry I have taken so long to reply. UGH - getting lost in Michigan is either a curse or a blessing. I do not have a very high regard for standard Michiganders (sorry to say) and it can be irksome to say the least to ask for directions and get nothing from a fellow person. I am glad you went by Mt. Bruce and that they were around to give directions to you :-) Hopefully you will be able to get back to spend a bit of time there...such a lovely, warm and welcoming place (especially when mother nature has her "green" on). Hopefully your need to go to Urgent Care was not too bad and that all went well there. A friend wants me to help clean out her parents house in Texas around the time of your fiber fair but I am secretly hoping to fit it into the march calendar :-) Take care - Karen
