I am sitting here on Christmas Eve, in a house that has only two rooms with furniture, waiting for DH to come home and help me finish wrapping gifts for the grandkids tomorrow, but it's all OK because we finally have our NEW HOUSE in MICHIGAN!!!!

All of our furniture except the dining room and spare bedroom is in a warehouse somewhere, it will be delivered on December 28 to the new place.

Which, has 4 acres! Plenty of room for a garden in the way back of the house. Next door is a farm with lots of outbuildings and we're on an unpaved road for 1/2 mile East-West and 1 mile North-South (we'll be drifted in whichever way the wind blows) We are WAY out in the country but still close enough to Metro Detroit to be able to take advantage of all the city living "stuff".

Our new house is near orchards and farm markets - we got here too late this year to know what that will mean during the summertime but I'm looking forward to finding out.

Yesterday we spent driving a trailer with a 1943 Ford 8N tractor across the state to the new house so we would be able to plow the drive if it snows. We had two tire blowouts on the trailer an hour apart, (major bummer) so the 4-hour trip took us about 8 hours, but we made it, and the tractor is now safely ensconced in the new pole barn. The delay put a damper in my Christmas shopping but I think it will be OK.

The house is beautiful, 10 years old, huge windows, lots of cabinets in the kitchen, lots of walk-in closets... I love it.

Congratulations, how great to celebrate Christmas in your new home!
That sounded like a bit of an ordeal getting set up with the tractor for snow plowing, but will be well worth it when you really need to get out.
Get busy planning that garden! That is a favorite winter pasttime around here. Spring will be here before you know it.
Happy New Year in your Happy New Home!

Actually we spent Christmas in the old house, we left the guest bedroom furniture there. It is weird to be here with none of our stuff in the house. I go to get something out of a cabinet, open the door, and the cabinet is empty! But there's no furniture at all in the new house yet, and we wanted to spend Christmas with the grandkids.

Here's a couple of the listing photos of the new house:

Very nice! I can imagine sitting at the table, enjoying the beautiful outdoors. This should be a wonderful and exciting new year for you. I just noticed how Psalm 128:2 fits with your gardening plan, very appropriate!

Thats a beautiful house you have and soon it will be a beautiful home. You have 3 more acres than I do and I had deer in my back yard and now coyotes..I'm not happy about them moving into my neighborhood but my DH says they'll move on in the spring, I hope he's right.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Thanks for all the good wishes.

I hope there are few deer here, but maybe that's too much to ask in Michigan. One of the movers was talking to his buddy on the phone and he told him we live so far north that he saw a moose in the backyard!

I was alarmed, but he was only joking....

Welcome to Michigan Brenda! Beware - Deer are everywhere :-) No moose down this way but you never know. Twenty miles north of Warren...does that put you in the Romeo area? Pretty landscape over that way. I spent a lot of time there a few years back at a sheep farm and loved the drive over and back. Enjoy setting up home - Karen

Brenda,

Congratulations! Am I remembering correctly that there is also a family farm in MI that you go to? Good luck with your unpacking and making this house into a home! It is beautiful.

Karen - Yes, I am equally distant from Romeo and Armada. We are only a couple of miles from Wolcott Mill Metropark, which I have contacted to do some volunteer work. There is a historic farm learning center there. I understand they have a fiber fair in the spring and some vegetable gardening/canning workshops in late summer, I hope to meet my neighbors by volunteering there as well as educating the general public about farming, and hopefully making some new friends in the community. Where was the sheep farm you spent time at?

Ann, wow, I am impressed that you remembered that. DH is at the farm on the other side of the state tonight, I am missing him. Tomorrow I have assigned to unpacking more boxes... Lots and lots of them to finish. I just took a look at your link - love the photos. And the music! Where exactly is Forrester Farm? I'd love to stop in next time I'm in GR area.

Brenda - I thought that we had chatted about that before. Sometimes my memory impresses me too - LOL! We are just about 15 min. North East from the Frederick Meijer Botanical Gardens in Grand Rapids. Belmont address, Rockford schools, just beyond Ada. Call anytime that you are in the area, I'd love to show you around or simply relax with a cup of coffee and chat.

Happy unpacking.

Brenda, Wolcott Mills is a wonderful place for many reasons. When we first moved to the state we lived in Lake Orion and then Ortonville and I was able to get around to all the cool places there. Now, living in Montrose your neck of the woods is a bit of a jaunt. Here is the link for the farm - http://www.sheepstuff.com/ - a wonderful place to visit anytime really but it comes to life during the fall festival...a show not to miss really if you like old farms, sheep, dogs, fiber, nature and so on. I know where you are there are probably other fiber sources but there is a great store in Lake Orion if you are looking for yarn and other materials :-) Take Care
