Hi ladies, I have a goat who has a cold and was wondering what I should do for it? Should I give it anything? Thanks!
Hugs,
Channah

I don't have a goat, and never had a goat, but I wish I did have one. If it were my goat, because I am such a lover of animals, I'd bring the goat in the house by the fireplace. I'd give it some warm milk, and pet it alot! I bet you are laughing. LOL I hope your sweet little goat gets better soon.

Marly, I would do that too in a minute but I don't know what my parents whould say. And no I'm not laughing just smiling really big and wishing I could do that. I did go out there and give them hay and read a book to them. I know it's weird but I talk to them and read to them. :) I do that with my bunnies, dog, and cats. I love my animals so much!!!

Channah

It's nice knowing you respect your parents. I wouldn't have minded if you did laugh, I was laughing at my self. I've brought in my outside cats once when it was raining alot. My husband says they should be outside even if it rains. So, I go into this big message to him about if it was raining would he like to be left out in the rain, shaking because it is so cold. He usually just rolls his eyes at me. Of course he knows I am such an animal lover and nothing he says can make me NOT bring the cats in from the rain or from the cold. Channah, I do not think it is wierd to talk or to read to any animal. I do that, too!!!!! Last week, here in Louisiana, it rained almost every day, in fact it's still raining! I left the screen door to the den open so the outside cats would come in. If they see my Sweetie (husband) they will not come in. LOL. Anyway, slowly by surely all five came in: After they all settled and found a nice warm spot, I started singing to them. They love it. My Sweetie comes in the den just shaking his head. In fact, I stayed up all night with them in the den. We all watched about three movies! Around 5 in the morning, they were all ready to go back outside. LOL. I guess you are an animal lover just like I am. I thank God for giving me such love for my animals and for all animals. So, Nadia, Moon, Audrey and Pepper (the outside cats) just love me unconditionally. They all have me wrapped around their little paws. I'd want it no other way. Take care.

Hey Maggie, I've heard of folks using heat lamps if the animal is really cold, but you need to be careful that the animal doesn't knock it over and accidentally start a fire, or burn itself if he gets too close to it. There should be some safety. Also, another thought is to use some kind of livestock coat or maybe a sweatshirt. Again, though, the goat might just eat it! It really depends on the goat and the material used.

Finally, I would say just get alot of nice straw for it to bed in, or if you have another animal and they're friendly, maybe have them bed down in the same stall for body heat? Good luck with this, in any case!

Make sure your goat is warm and dry, somewhere out of the weather, with lots of hay to burrow in, heat lamp if you can, warm water to drink if possible. I would give mine some ProBiotic, and make sure she is eating. Colds have to just run their course, if you feel it is necessary give her some penicillin, or take her to the vet.

When you free your mind your heart can fly. Farmgirl # 714,

Channah, you might need to give her a shot of Vit B. You can get it at a feed store. They also have the syringes. I keep a bottle and give mine a shot if they look like they need a boost. It can't hurt. Is she eating? Drinking? Hopefully, She's better today. But yeah, be very careful with those heat lamps around goats. I nearly lost a whole flock of chickens and 4 goats once when they knocked the heat lamp down into the straw bedding. It didn't catch fire but the whole hen house was full of smoke for who knows how long. With them all in and no way to get out. So be VERY careful. I'd just use a sweater on them.

Thanks ladies!! All 3 of my goats are together ( They always are! :)) and at all times they have clean bedding. She is eating and drinking so that is really good. I've been giving her warm water, hay, and she and the other goats our out of the weather. Thanks again!!
Hugs,
Channah
