I'm enjoying these great and easy recipes. They are so yummy, you just gotta try them too!

I was so inspired with the movie about Julia Childs and this woman Julie's life. My daughter and I started cooking our way through a cookie cookbook in 2003, but she got bored so we stopped. Who wants to eat cookies everyday she said!

So, after watching this movie I got the brainstorm to do it again but with a different book. Amish Cooking! These are simple and few ingredient recipes.

I'm placing the recipes and how they turn out on my blog. I thought what a good idea to ask my farmgirl sisters to join in the fun and follow along with us. Make the recipes too and give me your feedback on the recipe on my blog. Make as many or few with me as you want.

Just sign up here and join in the fun. Start date Jan.4, 2010!

I thought after we finish this book of 218 recipes we can pick out another one like Paula Deen or someone with good home cooking!

Marsha,

I would love to sign up and join you in your endeavor. I would like to start after the first of the year for several reasons, as this is a hugely busy time, and I will be having eye surgery tomorrow and want to give myself time to heal and be able to read the recipes as I should!! ;-)

Let's set the start time for Jan. 4th. Thanks Claudia, that will give me time to stock up my pantry too! Hope your surgery goes well.

Hugs,
Marsha

That sounds really fun! I follow a blog called Mennonite Girls Can Cook & they have some really good recipes on there. I asked for an Amish cookbook for Christmas, but I'm not sure I'll get it lol. Depends who's buying the presents this year.

I am excited for many to follow this thread. I think that we all could learn many things getting back to the simpler way of life. Pam, I think it is neat there is a blog out there with recipes others are contributing. Will be awaiting our start. Marsha, thanks for the good wishes for surgery. Am excited to see how much better my vision will be!!!

By the way, I have on occasion, for recipes and for fun, looked at the Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School book on line. It is at http://www.bartleby.com/87. Amazing how cooking has changed over the years!!

I'm so excited, I have my first comment on my blog for the cooking fun. Okay, I need some help. How do I add to the post? Do I keep putting up a new post for the next recipe or do I put it under the comment section of that listing? How do you do it on your blog?

Thanks,

Marsha

When you want to add to a previous post, just go to "Edit Posts" (on the same screen as the "New Post"), and then you can add on to it. I would make it more noticeable (like bold or italics or just an "ETA" before it). But that's just me. Hey, I just realized that I have a food blog too! Haha...I haven't added to it for a really long time, but it's all of my Grandma's recipes. And most of them, I have not tried. I just wanted to make a blog where everyone in my family could share the recipes.

Sounds like fun! Amish recipes should have pretty basic ingredients and not be to fussy to prepare.
I got a Mennonite church cookbook from my MIL. She said all the recipes were great except for those by one lady, unfortuneatly I can't remember which one!

That was one reason I chose the book. Each recipe only has a few ingredients you'd need to buy and things easy to find.

I'm really looking forward to this. Thanks for joining in.

Monday starts off the cookoff. I'm really looking forward to this. My daughter wants to do one of her cookbooks with young friends. If any of you have teenage daughters who like the Nancy Drew book and video game series then have them go to her blog for recipes out of the Nancy Drew Cookbook. We'll put up a picture of the cookbook in case you want to buy one. I got it cheap on ebay.

The first recipe is a success. It was like a traditional baked chicken with yummy herb flavoring.

I'm so glad my Mom can cook for us again. These recipes are so wonderful. When I get home from work at night, I know she will have something great for me out of this Amish recipe book. The pork chops were tender and yummy and the cheese cake, well that speaks for itself. She just happens to be the greatest cheese cake maker and cook I know. That's the truth! lol

I hope you are enjoying making these as much as I am. I've already decided what my next book of recipes will be. But, you'll have to keep following to find out what it will be.
Have you made any of the recipes I've posted? So far we like them all. What about you?

Oh, I have to try that chocolate pie! I live alone now and don't bake or cook much anymore, but my daughter is coming home for the summer and we were planning a cooking/baking spree then. The recipe sounds so yummy though, I just might have to find some excuse to make it before then!

I tried to leave a comment on your blog but it kept telling my password was incorrect and I did it 3 times. Oh, well, could be just a glitch night.
